Obama to ban recreational fishing, affecting 60 million fishers?

I don't think Obama will do that. I enjoy fishing. :) Did you know there's a major issue with flying carp (imported from China) in Mississippi river? It's partly the humans introduced them for some reason. If you drive a motorized boat thru parts of the river and you will see hundreds and hundreds of fish jumping out of water like crazy!

The were brought to Lakes in the south that were overgrown with hydrilla if I remember correctly. Not sure what the deal is with the Mississippi

It sounds like kokonut's post is just blog but not article so I found one article about related to fishing.

ESPN's story that kokonut posted is just false.

Now, sorry, I don't buy your story, kokonut.

Bingo! I smelled fish when I read Kokonut's posting.

And that's ironic considering that I used to work for a sportfishing charters company in Cancun and I don't EVEN like or care for fishing! There, some species cannot be killed and eaten. They must be released if caught if you don't have the license. I was imaging that whatever his administration was doing, it has to be for a good reason but ban fishing in all those waters? Give me a break.

Me neither....is that some kind of algae growth or something? Those fish have chased away fishing/boating industry in the area, which is hurting cause of all the jumping fish causing injury to the people.

Its almost like a fern. It was a big problem at Lake Conroe near Houston (the lake I grew up on) It got to the point where youcouldn't fish and when you fell water skiing it was like landing in a bush......The Carp mowed it down quickly

Interesting! Sounds like they're scavenger fish which cleans up the mess.

Exactly.....and they are kind of ugly too

Yes, they are related to goldfish we have as pets today as well. Remember, the flying carps can be huge...so being hit by one would be hazardous, ouch!

I remember carp, not the flying ones, in our Minnesota rivers. Ugly bottom feeders. People who liked eating them said that the only way they are half good is smoked.

oh, he's still around and trolling everyone. cool.

anyway, i doubt that the fishing ban will occur. you know, the document has to go through the congress before it goes into effect. if it doesn't go through the congress, then it won't happen.

Incredibly irresponsible of EPSN to publish a story like this.

chirp chirp chirp? yea I figured

lol.

You means when he threw two almost-irrelevant topics off linking to this one-- one of which was an ad?

No because the topic is about fishing although it's no longer about recreational fishing that's at stake, obvioiusly, but the thread can now take a look at the stakes against commercial fishing. Or at least start a fresh thread on that very topic.
