I find the cartoon cold and heartless to insult ape because of Obama´s ears...

So, what? It's just a cartoon, y'all. Just like most of the politic cartoonists bashed on Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumfield for last 8 years. I didn't complain about it, I laughed.

We always made fun of Bush and Chonkey.

I wonder if this is related to the Travis thing? Just right after the incident.

What does Travis have to do with the stimitus bill? They probably used the monkey as a black person for some reason.

Travis = happened in upstate NY so NY newspaper used a morbid twisted humor to combine that with Obama + stimulus plan.

I know but they deserved it and making fun of someone is much different that implying that a dead ape is the president. I do think it's related to the Travis thing.

  • Proposed by Obama.
  • Uses taxpayer dollars (I think?)
  • Purpose is for the recession
  • $787 US billion dollars = That's 552,377,080,227.63 pounds in your country.
 
The cartoon is one that refers to Obama and Bush as monkeys that wrote stimulus bills.

The monkey part is the cartoonist saying that the bills were poorly written and acted out, and therefore not helpful to the economy but rather a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Not my opinion, that's the opinion of the cartoonist that I am gathering from what I understand of the cartoon.

But this would make a good discussion for a social issues class. ;)

My personal opinion of the cartoon that this is a poor sense of judgement and a lack of decent humor.

Better way to put that is "future taxpayers' dollars" Most likely the next 2 generation would have to pay that off if not add to it.
 
It's a cartoon. Probably not in best taste but a cartoon non the less. These cartoons always makes fun of someone...

New York Post is standing behind cartoon some consider racist

NEW YORK - The New York Post is standing behind a cartoon that some have interpreted as comparing President Barack Obama to a violent chimpanzee gunned down by police. The cartoon in Wednesday's Post by Sean Delonas shows two police officers standing over the body of a bullet-riddled chimp. One of the officers says the other, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."

Civil rights activist Al Sharpton called the cartoon "troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys."

But Sharpton said the Post should clarify the point it was trying to make with the cartoon, which was playing off Monday's rampage by a pet chimpanzee in Stamford, Conn., that left a woman severely mauled. Police ended up killing the chimp.

In a statement, Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan said: "The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist."

A story about the cartoon on the liberal-leaning Huffington Post Web site drew hundreds of reader responses, many calling the cartoon racist and insensitive.

Sam Stein, a columnist for the site, wrote that "at its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it. Most provocatively, it compares the president to a rabid chimp. Either way, the incorporation of violence and (on a darker level) race into politics is bound to be controversial."

The reasons the cartoonist used the chimp were:

1. Travis the chimp was recently in the news so it's current and attention-getting.

2. People who don't support the stimulus bill consider it so bad that a chimp could have written it. That is, it wasn't written by an intelligent person.
