Obama legalizes horse slaughter for human consumption

I can get emu, ostrich, wild elk, and buffalo at Whole Foods. Just before I moved back to Ohio there was a guy in TN about 10 miles from me that started an emu farm. It was a very successful business selling the emu for food.
There is an emu farm in our area. Once in a while one escapes and gives the humans a run for the money. :giggle:

interesting, about the emu...I wondered if it was similar to ostrich...

I've never had horse or strange meats, but I've tried rabbit, quail, and gator. All of these were at a Brazilian Churrascaria (bbq) restaurant. The gator was not my flavor.

Duck is pretty popular in asian cuisine, but I think Westerners will probably avoid it like the plague. I'm not particularly fond of eating it either.

I do know as far as my family/relatives are concerned, the farthest they've ever been was pops eating frogs.

My grandson eats gator tail. Basically, he'll try anything at least once. His brother sticks with mac and cheese, and chicken fingers. :giggle:

Westerners eat duck. It's served in most Asian restaurants. I'll have duck once in a while. My sister-in-law in MI served duck for Thanksgiving.

Hubby's grandfather loved frog legs. He'd send TCS (when he was a kid) and his beagle to the lake to catch the frogs for him. Yuck!

Grew up eating frogs legs, too. My dad and brother used to gig for them. I like them every now and again, fried really crispy, but not something I want all the time.

We had duck for christmas dinner last year. And just down the block from where I live, one can buy various assortments of meats from rabbit to venison to caribou to duck to goose ...the list goes on. Game meats is becoming more popular with those wanting to avoid industrial farm meats.

I've seen the beeffalo at Kroger here, but never the pure buffalo.

That's of interest. Now I'm wondering if the buffalo is pure buffalo or beefalo. I think it's buffalo but I will have to check next time I'm there.

I have tried,

Deer, frog legs, gator tail, quail, rabbit, squirrel, possum, turtle, crawfish, duck, bison, bear and wild pig.

Some I just tasted... others I truly like. :)

I love duck. I've eaten "bambi" burgers. Those were good. I've tried Buffalo but I wasn't wild about it. Nor was I wild about rabbit but I think the methold used to cook it was unsuitable for the meat. Meat I want to try: wild boar meat, emu, elk and bear...
