It would be very interesting to see what he would look at after 8 years if he's voted back in again.

Uh, no one can be president for more than 8 years. There is a 2-term limit, and each term is 4 years.

Okay then....what would you rather kiss -- an individual with minty breath or a person that tastes like an ashtray?

I am not going to kiss the president. Therefore, I don't care how his mouth tastes. So, he doesn't count in this smoking situation.

You wouldn't vote for him just because he smokes? Why? It's his body, his business. It's not like he's doing heroin or cocaine. Yes, smoking is bad, but, we have worse things to worry about than him smoking cigarettes. War, terrorism, economy, etc. Smoking is totally at the BOTTOM of the priority list. Seriously.

That's the point I've tried to make.

But, we have some members that are still bitter over McCain's loss and they'll try to find anything that they can use as a fault against Obama.

If I knew he was a smoker--I wouldn't have voted for him.

That is the dumbest and the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my whole 28 years of my life.

A stupid simple cigarette changes your vote? Oh please. Get a life! You can't expect the president to be the MESSIAH. Every single person in this WHOLE world has a vice of some kind. It can be ANYTHING. No one is perfect. You cannot expect a president to be PERFECT. All you can do is expect the president to do a damn good job while in office, while president. Does smoking count as part of his job? No. It's something of his that really is not our business. There are BIGGER and WORSE things to worry about than smoking, such as war, terrorism, holocausts, etc. Is smoking really that huge of a deal? I think not.

There was a ruler of a certain country that some people would normally consider "perfect" (before they knew who this person was, before they heard what his name was). This ruler was a vegetarian, didn't drink, didn't smoke, etc. Guess who he was?

HITLER
. And he killed millions of Jews, Deaf, and disabled people, and anybody he considered not perfect.

You see?

So, is smoking REALLY THAT IMPORTANT? No.

To all of you who say that if you had known that Obama smoked, you wouldn't have voted for him....
GET A LIFE!

While I highly disagree with Byrdie, he is entitled to his opinion and unlike a few other posters that dislike Obama, I respect him more because he doesn't dwell on Obama's citizenship and other bullshit. This is probably one of the only times that I've seen him object to Obama and it's not as bad as others.

I just want to add that I understand the sentiment but I do not agree with telling someone to get a life.

That's about true. He gave some special "awards" to anyone working with Hitler/Nazi organization on who dont smoke and such and after Hitler killed himself, alot of Nazis went back to smoking lol pathetic.

I'm pointing out hypocrisy in scolding Obama over what some think is such a big deal (smoking) when there are bigger fishes to fry (Bush, Cheney and Co.).

It's the fact that he hid about his smoking habit. Yeah, Bush lied but so did Obama by omitting his habit of smoking when he was running for election.

Thank you. Besides I point out the flaws in all Presidents including Democrats and Republicans.

It's like telling "No" to a smoker who was the only person in the world that ever to be able to save your life if you was in any risk.

How wisely decision was that?

Oceanbreeze, when Obama mentioned a word " CHANGE " - why don't HE change, too if he wants somethin' DIFFERENT about himself than other former presidents ?

He wants change everythin', so therefore I would like to see him to change himself, too.

Since he is the first " black " President-elect in history. :)

Why should Obama change himself? He don't have to change himself but stay what he is and what he like because it's his life. If he want smoke again then is fine... if he want to have a dog, then fine... if he want to pick which clothes he want then is fine, go to fitness then is fine, go on...... It's his life as a private person, not ours. As president, he have to smoke outside of White House to follow the rules.

Obama never say that he change himself for his people and America.

The word "CHANGE" mean is for his country is improve economy, healthcare, terrorisum, war, etc to help his people better life, not himself and people itself.

Obama don't dictate his people how to do with their healthy or want change his people...but spread the information, it's people's choice to take or not. Yes, we all including Obama do not deny that the smoking is bad that's why Obama tried so hard to quit his smoking habit.

You are talkin' about dog, clothes and fitness -- all these things don't hurt his health except smokin'. Smokin' does affect health.

Okay, let me explain a little bit here. Do you remember the dialog box that says by Obama : " CHANGE We Believe In " ?

IF, he wants to improve economy, healthcare, terrorism, and so forth - then, HE is the one who will CHANGE people's lives THROUGH changin' things to IMPROVE people's lives. That's what he means about " successs " or " gettin' better ".

So, therefore I would like to see him to change or improve himself to quit smokin'. Bein' a president ( soon ), his health needs to withstand its strength and be strong against pressure or stress out by NOT smokin'. Smokin' will make him tired. Remember, Obama is 47 years old - I am one year older than him and I know what it is like to smoke because, I was EX smoker myself. At that age of 40's and beyond needs some exercisin' and eat healthy food to keep health up, because of hormone will slow things down due to agin' - not like when you were young and CAN do things than older people.

IF, some of you say that it is HIS business and DO what ever he wants with his cigerettes, then why he tells people " CHANGE We Believe In ? " Contradication or what ? Fall off from the wagon or what ?

Sigh

I never smoke and I used to be snob about it to everyone who smoke because I thought smoke is bad for everyone but then again so other many stuffs which are bad for our health for instance we the people of this world are keeping polluted the air, water and land. They are killing us and guess what we do not care about it. What upset me about non smokers try to punish those smokers by give them tickets if they caught break the law by walk on the sidewalk or in the park. It has gone too far already then I read this oh my gosh it keeps getting worst. Soon to be those nonsmokers will try to pass the law so anyone even the presdient can not smoke in captial or anywhere in USor they get ticket for those also.

Agreed, jazzy. Whether or not Obama is a smoker, a smoker trying to quit, ot never touched a cig in his life is not an issue. "Change we can believe in" is a political slogan, and it refers to political change...something this country is sorely in need of. If this administration is successful in turning the economy around, creating more jobs, insuring that all Americans have access to health care, and improves the educational system in this country, whether or not he had a cigarrette or two is a moot issue. What's next? He can't have a glass of wine at a State dinner?

Funny how the same people didn't see the contradiction in Palin's daughter being an unmarried teen mother and all the health problems and social problems created in this country by teen aged pregnancy are now focusing on the fact that Obama is a smoker.

It is frightening indeed that people seem so intent on removing the civil rights of others in this country, all in the name of their own personal choices.

The fact of the matter is, Obama did not "hide" the fact that he was a smoker. I knew during his campaign that he was a smoker, that he was trying to quit, that he was using nicotine gum as a replacement therapy (as a matter of fact, Secret Service carried it in their pockets for him) and that he had suffered a couple of set backs in his attempts to quit. It was not hidden information. He discussed it openly in at least one television interview, and his wife discussed it openly. Unlike Palin attempting to hide her daughter's pregnancy until she was forced to reveal it, Obama was open and honest regarding the fact that he was a smoker.

There is no law that states that the President of the United States cannot be a smoker. Whether or not he continues to smoke, or whether he quits for personal reasons has absolutely no bearing on his ability to run this country. It has absolutely nothing to do with his ability to bring about the economic, political, education and health care change that this country is in need of.

Does Obama ask us to quit smoking?

Does Obama ask us to quit smoking?

Exactly. If all Americans quit smoking, health care costs in this country would be greatly reduced, and his health care plan would be much easier to implement. But he doesn't demand that Americans quit smoking to make his job easier, now does he? Smoking is still a legal activity in this country, and the fact of the matter is, the government makes billions in tax revenues off of smokers.

...I didn't ask you to kiss the President. I asked, "What would you rather kiss? A person that has minty breath or a person that tastes like an ashtray."

Incidentially no one has answered that question....
I don't kiss anyone on the lips except Hubby, and he's never been a smoker, so I don't have to make that choice. :P

This morning I kissed the cat and put outside my gf. We are still awaiting an explanation for Miss Kitty's minty breath.
*blowing smoke rings*

Well, the question is: Would you prefer him to give people's lives easier, no ?

Does he or does he not ask us to stop smoking when he proposed change for America?

I will answer your question but gotta answer mine first. :)
