??? Oatmeal

yeah i like cream of wheat or malt O meal.. yummy.. :)

chocolate oatmeal cookies i love the most i always steal to eat!!! my mom's favorite homemade :naughty:

Fast forward -5 years. Microwave oatmeal seems to have many more packages to choose from. Always turns out right-if follow directions. Enjoy

i really like the Old Fashioned or the Steel Cut, if I get the Steel Cut ones, then I soak them in non-dairy milk overnight-

When I was a child, we always ate the old-fashioned Oatmeal. Now-a-days, I buy the Instant Variety Pack!...I especially love the Raisins in the Oatmeal!...Bananas too....Good for you! With a glass of OJ and toast, wonderful Breakfast.

sometimes I put un-sweetened applesauce in mine - adds fiber and vitamin C, and some sweetness without sugar.

Applesauce has natural-occurring sugar in it. Just saying it in case some people here may mistake unsweetened applesauce for being sugar-free. I love to put applesauce in a lot of things. In fact, my wife makes homemade applesauce. I put them in homemade pancakes and other goodies.

Another thread resurrected from the dead! I saw the names and avatars of people I didn't recognize, and thought "Who are those folks and where have they been??" and then saw it was a thread going back to 2006. Oh well.

Anyway, so long as we're talking oatmeal - I LOVE it. I use the Old-Fashioned kind, but do it in the microwave. Only takes 2 minutes. '

My current love is "Old Wessex 5-grain cereal." It's something like oatmeal, but has 4 other grains in it too. (Hence the "5-grain" - duh...) I just ordered a case of it from Amazon, so that will get me through the winter. Love, love, love hot cereal on a cold morning.

Does it hurt the health benefits of oatmeal if what you do is make oatmeal-raisin cookies from it? ;-)

Can't put down a "hot topic"-porridge! Used to hate it- not cooked correctly. Back then-corn flakes were better-not now.
No cracks about Microwave oatmeal- just for the "cooking clueless"!

I think it's the amount of sugar they put in the instant oatmeal.

I really love the stuff, but truthfully, the instant isn't very healthy. If you really want to go for health, old fashioned oatmeal is better for you.

(But, instant tastes better! lol)

Old Fashioned oatmeal does not have sugar in it and it is healthier for you.

Old Fashioned Oatmeal vs. Instant Oatmeal

oh yes, I know "unsweetened" applesauce still has sugars from the fruit, just as an apple or grapes have sugar. But if I want an added sweetener, then I use raw agave or some other "natural" and lower-glycemic item.

They do have some"instant" or pouched oatmeals now that have no added sugar - and I check. I think some of it may called "Raw indulgence" or something...:hmm:yeah, here it is: Better Oats | Raw Pure & Simple | Bare

We have regular 5 minute oatmeal 5 out of 7 days a week for breakfast. I normally use, 1/4 cup raisins, 1 tsp brown sugar, 1 tsp butter to start with. Then, some mornings we add thawed, no-sugar added frozen fruit, peanut butter, or 1/2 cup of canned pure pumpkin and some 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice for 3 servings of oatmeal. I have also done it with unsweetened applesauce.

yeah add fruits to the oatmeals is so delicious.. heh..

I like banana in my oatmeal. I use to cook it with raisins but they're too sweet for my blood sugar now. Oatmeal is said to help lower cholesterol. I put it in my meatloaf instead of using bread crumb.

If you can find them in Florida, dried cherries or dried blueberries are really good, too.

I buy them in bulk whenever I go back to Michigan, but I haven't found them here in Virginia.

You can buy huge bags of dried cherries and blueberries at Sam's Club. Probably Amazon sends them also.

Sam's club here does sell them. I don't go dried as they are too hard for me to chew. I get the frozen fruit and let it that. We get mixed berries, strawberries, cherries, peaches and raspberries.

Interesting. That's good to know. I'm not a Sam's Club member but I never even thought to look on Amazon.

Usually we get to Michigan once a year, and I buy enough to last. The ones I buy are Michigan grown and packaged; I like to support the hometown crowd when I can.

I know Market Basket sell dried cranberries. I think they have sugar on them. I am not sure which states has Market Basket.
