NTID has a new building in Fall 2006.

Frankly, I like the quad the way it is. I seriously wonder if they could have found a different place to put the building. Maybe elevate it like the commons and put it between LBJ and the commons that way. I don't like the way they're destroying the quad in the process of the construction. ><

The stones and bricks in the quad is cracked and falling apart and some of the lights are broken or not there. They'll fix that when they build the new building.

Meh. Repairing an aging quad need not require the utter destruction thereof.

Actually, the old Quad is in the way of the building's expansion. There has been some injuries related to people falling down in the Quad and a lot of damage done to the light fixtures in the Quad. The new Quad will be flat and yards away from the old location.

I know, I know. Like I said before. I just think they could have found a better place for the building.

Where else could they have put it? It's cheaper to expand a building than to build a completely new building.

The fact that I don't really have an answer to that does not mean that my opinion has changed. >>

Over the last few weeks, they've destroyed the circle. The trees within the inside circle and the pine trees between LBJ and commons are gone. They used breakers on excavators to destroy some of the concrete circular seat between the buildings plus inside of the circle. There were piles of rebars. The inside of the commons look really nice. It looks bigger even if the new east wall reduces the area because there is more floor space between things and tables are smaller in some places.
The biosciences building is still a skeleton. The microelectronics extension is mostly done on the outside. The bridge from there to the CS building isn't yet covered up. They started digging at the site where they'll expand the engineering building.

That's too bad that those trees are gone. It was a perfect for the shades, even they were beautiful. The designers are jerk!

Here are some pictures of the construction...

The designers are not jerks. They have to remove the trees for now so they can redo the whole Quad. When the Quad is done, there will be trees. :)

Those trees were sycamore. Sycamore is the stronger than any tree, and they live over 100 years old. The designers should have dig them out and replant them somewhere else. They are beautiful, and it might makes you "feel good that it stays alive for so long when you gets older." Pine trees are easy to grow, and they are everywhere.

What makes you think they didn't plant them elsewhere?

yup, they're under construction right now. Loud noises and it scared the hell out of me. Jeez!

I see the problem that they are working on the area. I am surprised that they are working on it during school days instead of this past summer. I would imagine that the students need to focus on their homework during the day, and they need to go outside and meet people. This is a confliction between social and construction area.

I think that the students should recieve their school discount because of the construction. It seems that RIT committees' prospective that the students are just deaf and dumb because that's where most deafies attend NTID in that area. That's something that you have to think about that if you are on the campus. I mean that I am not complain about it, but that's what I look back and see the problem. That's all.

I hope that it will be nice one coming up. Actually, I hate a mirror-metal cubes in the front of NTID building I think it is so disgusting.

Because the summer was spent erecting the skeletons of the IT Collaboratory, the KGCOE/GCCIS bridge, the new biology building, renovating the commons, and doing electrical work for the Gracies coffee shop. FMS can only handle so many projects at once.

That's just plain ridiculous.

Last summer, they renovated the Commons (Dining Commons). Since most students are not here during the summer, they took that opportunity to renovate the Commons during the summer.

Secondly, the construction of the Student Development Center is a year-long process... not a 3-month process that can be done during the summer.
