I wear make up for work need to look presentable and professional. When I am not working no need for make up let my skin breathe.

i dont wear make up for stay home. I wear bare mineral make up that I go out for fun or business meeting or somewhere. I love bare mineral because my face don't feel any pancake or heavy. They don't cause any oily. I tried many different foudation and they cause my face feel heavy and oily. I like bare minereal best.

I voted sometimes...For work, I wear light foundation, mascara, and lip gloss and for an evening out, I add blush and eye shadow. When I was a teenager, putting make up on perfectly was a must but now that I am older and more busy, sometimes I just dont feel like it.

Same here, except I use a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen instead of foundation cuz I'm a redhead and burn easily. And in allergy season, I skip the mascara for work because of itchy eyes!

Is this true if you makeups for years, and they make your face really old and ruin the skin due the lack of air under the skin?
No, it's not true.

If you wear the foundation too thick, or if you don't properly clean your skin every night, it can have a bad effect. Never sleep in make up. Don't share make up. Scrubbing too hard when washing, pulling at the skin while applying make up, using make up that is wrong for your skin type (dry, oily, combination) can damage skin. Just wearing cosmetics doesn't hurt the skin.

Things that can damage the skin are:

* too much sun

* not drinking enough water

* heredity

* not cleansing the skin properly

* not moisturizing properly

* too much wind or cold dry air on the skin

* not keeping make up and tools (brushes, puffs, etc.) clean or replaced

* touching the face with dirty hands

* hormones

* medications

* illness or disease

* stress

* allergies

* smoking

Yeah, I like a light dusting of bare Minerals, too. :)

When I was in high school, I was on the stage crew, stage make up team. I did some really dramatic faces, including "monsters". Not the best application for daily life make up! :lol: But we used a lot of the same principles of shading and highlighting. That was about 40 years ago.

When I was a teen, I ironed my hair straight, outlined my eyes with black, and wore white lipstick and nail polish. Obviously, those ways are not in style now! :P

In my twenties and thirties, lip gloss, mascara, and a light blush were all I used. I also did too much tanning in the sun (oops).

More recently, I've attended professional facial aesthetics classes, which included the use of makeup, analyzing skin and face types, skin care, waxing, and various facial techniques. (All the cool spa stuff.) Very interesting.

I also attend long-term, regularly scheduled skin care/cosmetics company's training sessions. Also, very informative.

As I get older, I can compare the various stages of age that I have experienced, and how those stages effect skin care and cosmetics. What worked for me in my twenties, with oily skin, brown eyes, medium brown/red hair, and different life style, doesn't work for me now with dry skin, green eyes, gray hair, and new activities. As the years go by, we can't stick with the same styles and products. Time marches on. :P

I've found as I get older, the concept of "less is more" applies. Do you find that, too?

In my case, I didn't wear much make up to begin with, so less for me would nothing. ;)

But I know what you mean. There is no way that I want the weight of make up pulling my face down even further. So I do use a light touch. I do need more color then I used to. My eyebrows are fading out and my eyelashes are thinner. I don't do tanning anymore (boo, hoo), so I'm colorless. I want enough make up to look alive, and to let my Deaf consumers see my expression. :) I use a taupe pencil to shape my gray brows so they can see which way my eyebrows move. I use a little mascara and liner just so my little almond eyes don't totally disappear. I also learned from a Deaf consumer that matte lip color is easier to watch than glossy. So, I use a matte lip color stick for work, then just add gloss over it for "play". A touch of blush for a healthy glow on my cheeks, and a dusting of light powder to cut down the shine on my Portuguese schnoz. My moisturizer, body lotion, and powder have sunscreen protection in them.

I prefer to concentrate my efforts on the health and condition of my skin. That means good cleansing methods and products, moisturizing, microdermabrasion, and exfoliation. Nothing harsh.

LOL! I understand the need for color! As a pasty white skinned redhead whose red hair is beginning to fade into some nondescript color that doesn't even have a name, I often feel like a ghost!:giggle:

I rarely wear make up and when I do, it's usually with a light fountain and some blush and lip gloss.

only important anyone should focus to keep skin look healthy :D Then I will love to date anyone. wee wee woof

The older I get, the less makeup I use but yes I use it with good judgment. Carefully applied makeup makes my blue eyes very bright and blue.

The makeup that I cannot live without every day is my rose colored lipstick :bowdown:

Reba and Jillo,

I am not at your age yet but I am starting to notice that the kind of make up that looked good on me in my 20s is starting not to look good on me anymore. I drink lots of water, wash my face, and take vitamins on and off.

Any advice other than sunscreen on my face daily?

I used Oil of Olay but it seems not to be working when it comes to moisterizing my face like before.

I dont have the time nor the money to shop for costly products or take classes about skin care/makeup so any advice?

I love my natural face, and I only use eyeliner. I use make-up for special occasions, I bet people will say, "Whoa beautiful" and I roll my eyes as usual.

Hmm, that's kind of tough to say without meeting you. I could recommend some products but I don't want to come across as a spammer. :)

Here are some suggestions.

First, analyze your skin type. Is it normal, oily, dry, or combination (oily T-zone, normal or dry on the rest)?

Do you have specific problems (acne, rosacea, sun damage)?

Do you have sensitivities to specific products or ingredients?

Write those things down and check them with the labels of the products you want to try.

You say that you "wash" your face. What kind of product do you use, and what method do you use? For example, do you use the family bar soap and a washcloth, or do you use a foamy cleanser and a cotton ball? Or...? How often? How does your skin look and feel after washing? Is it tight or irritated? Smooth and refreshed? Or...? Are you gentle with your face, or are you a scrubber?

Do you ever exfoliate, use facial masks, or microdermabrasion?

I might be able to find some websites with "quizzes" that can help.

Before investing in expensive products you can request samples from some companies. There's no reason to waste your money on something that you don't like, or that irritates your skin. Just be careful to request samples only, and don't let any companies sign you up for a "membership".

I can give you some resources, if I you are interested. I'll only give you places that I've checked out myself. I don't believe any "one" product line is perfect for everyone. You can mix and match if you want.

I vote nope never :)

I dont make up as like never!! :) I dont like make up .. but glad I look young never change just same faces so far :D

Even I never had use lotion on my face, too :) .. just normal my face since I was kid :)

I think most chicks look better without make up. lip gloss and nail polish, some eyeliner but anything more i dont see the point.

I dont wear makeup at all not even for church. Sad I know. I barely had on any foundation or mascara for my wedding. I dont care if they put make up on me for my funeral just as long as I dont look like Tammy Bakker sleeping, lol.

Where I work make up is pointless because I have chicken flying up in my face all day and I have to continously wipe it off and my other job is retriever training and I sweat during the summer and use a balaclava in the winter so no use for makeup there either.

when I do wear make up I feel like a clown so I dont wear it.
