No more car!

well u cant be happy for layoff cuz of never know u will have gf who get preg in future and need work for car pay, ins and baby and LIVE!

I am very happy today! This is my last day for driving my car. I finally stand up and told my parents I am not paying the insurance. I pay the insurance with my parents together that's why. What's other funny things is that at the same time, my work just got layoff. I am very happy! Now I save $250 a month, and I am very happy to stay home with SSI very peacefully.

Oh yeah and I am planning to sell my car for $$$$$$$$$$$ hehe!

Good for you. Greener without a car. You can always find another job if you need one latter I'm sure.

...I am happy to get laid off because I don't have to drive 30 miles from Vancouver to Portland back and forth....
OIC, you didn't like the long commute. I can sympathize with that. I hate long commutes, too. Maybe you can find a new job closer to home, or close to a bus route. :)

so you're happy?

how odd.. ssi sucks...

getting unemployment checks is better than SSI.. thats if you're looking for a new job?
i must have a job.. because i need money to cover house bills, bills, bills, the fun i want, and list goes on

Puyo, I can understand that you have to drive long way to work everyday like this but I hope you will get a job somewhere nearest where you live. It would be nicer to work than stay at home all the day.

I got a wonderful new yesterday. I heard those rumor for over year but I don´t want to believe until yesterday. Some of you know that I drove 14 miles to work everyday. They will move us to other caserne which is 5 miles distance from my area between February and March 2008 which is really wonderful... it mean that I will use bicycle for travel 5 miles to work everyday next year... :thumb:

Congrats on getting rid of your car. I wish I could get rid of mine but I love it too much. I just dont want to drive it to work daily but the public transportation sucks here.:pissed:

That is your opinion, and money is just brainwashing. I notice how happier I am without the money.

I'm suggest you that you need apply at Kmart and have fun at this job, also I bet it's closer to your home.

I was shopped at Super Kmart and looks not bad.

Kmart? lol yeah it's close to my home too, but that's only one Kmart in Vancouver.

Do you ride bike when you need transportation? LOL. There's always a way around with or without bike.

I did live on SSI when I was in college. Was poor but kept the car cuz it's paid off. Gas was cheap back then (79 cents a gallon). I repaired car using my mechanical whiz creativity to get it running like starter went bad, I use 6 inches copper pipe, hammer, drill, hacksaw. I pounded the copper pipe to flattened it then made a copy of starter's worn copper contact. Then assembled it and put starter back on. IT works!. I can't live without cars cuz almost every places are pretty far off and City did not have Public Transportation back then..

Some deafie here in Kansas on SSI still owns car. They find their way around to get car fixed. Sometime they have extra car which is broken down and other exact same model work fine. They use it for parts to save money. They can afford Insurance. Some of their car have broken windows, bad shock, no muffler ect and still driveable. There is NO Motor Vehicle Inspection here in KS. Missouri requires MVI by law. They can't live w/o cars. They will not sacrifice their freedom tho.

A friend of mine still on SSI and owned 15 cars and trucks scatter across City of Olathe (80% of vehicles are inoperatable and got it through city auction LOL). He managed to buy cars and trucks by trading or selling. Right now he is down to 3 vehicles cuz many of his friends who let him park cars at their apt parking lot or home complained that it's becoming eyesore. New Apartment manager finally decided to clean up APT parkinglot. They had police slapped warning sticker that car will be towed if not operateable. My friend had to move inoperatable car around in order to fool the officer. It's a tiring task for him then finally sold the car LOL. I gave message to him "Get a Job and throw out ur crap heap and get new one!!!"

Some Deafie can't drive and rely on Bus or friends who are available. Sad is that there are FEW deafie ride bike.
