news Canad Strike Post Code

Some years ago Canada Post stripped 15 sick days away from postal workers; as a result, many of them have had to lose pay on sick day or doctor appointment after consumption of their annual sick days. My good friend has lost $400 in pay for doctor and MRI appointments when his annual sick leave has expired.

Safety is a major factor, too. I know for a fact that some mailmen have had to carry two or so heavy bags and I have witnessed several of them struggled while carrying two bags. In addition, Canada Post knowingly forced them to work in extreme cold weather in the past. Six years ago or so, several mailman in Hull and Ottawa refused to work in very cold weather with -51C wind chill; as a result, Canada Post suspended and fined them. Quebec Labour Ministry and Public Labour Relations Board had to intervene on their behalf to force Canada Post to cancel their decision.; moverover, Canada Post got a warning over their treatment of mailman in this incident.

As a matter of facts, the working atmosphere at Canada Post has never been positive for a long time.
really you find out know how!
I am expect to figure out!

canada is very still on mailman?:hmm:

they're nuts! i bust my ass off for years to be a nurse and this guy/girl signs a paper to become a mailperson...they already get paid crazy well for not having to have any education and benefits on top..gimme a break

Agreed. I think that what they're at now is fair.

I talked to someone at the post office. It has nothing to do with the wages. They either want the backrooms and warehouses to be safer to work in, or to have their salary increased. One or the other.

You're right... There's other stuff too, but one of the conditions is an 11% pay raise. A friend of mine's father is a mailman.

Wrong.

Sorry, I grew up around roughnecks. Having a cosy indoor white-collared career with an education does not justify being paid more. People deserves to be compensated for the toll hard labour taxed on their bodies.

Canada Post workers are paid significantly more than those who work at Purolator and UPS. It's a government job, so naturally they're paid more than what they would be if they worked for a corporation. The pay is more than fair. I don't know enough about their working conditions to judge.

You have to understand, seldom all the demands during workers' strikes are fulfilled. It's better to ask for too much than to ask for just the right amount, then get less than what one desires. Secondly, government employees are much more loyal to their agency than any companies in the private sector-- for good reasons: it cuts down on security clearance, hiring and training costs.
