New York

That's because everyone has their own definition of "upstate"

NYC people: Upstate is anything that is north of Yonkers or maybe as far as Croton.

Hudson Valley: Upstate is anything north of Albany

Albany: Upstate is the Adiroundack mountains

Adiroundack mountains: What is upstate?

It basically just means "really far away in the countryside".

what about long island??

I attended RIT in Rochester. It was okay, I loved snowy winters. But mood swing binges during winter can be a bit tough, no sun and all that.

I went to NYC with aunt and brother some few years ago. It was fun.

I also have been to Buffalo with ex girlfriend to a punk rock concert. I had a blast time! :)

I think that's about it. I can't really justify which one is better, because I like them all.

no Long Island?? :(

Sorry, nope. I don't think there is much to do in Long Island?

Why, do you live in Long Island?

This reminds me of long island iced tea liquor drink, lol...

I used to live there. lots of beaches, restaurants, and shopping. Beaches are my world. :)

Not necessarily, I know what you mean. I have already clarified myself before. I thought Upstate were Adirondacks, but found out really it means anything north of Yonkers is considered upstate NY, downstate is pretty much NYC and LI.

Anyone living Yonkers or south pay the highest taxes in New York state.

And no, upstate NY does not necessarily neans far away country side., for instance Binghamton, NY is a big city (I know not really) but it is considered upstate NY. Even Buffalo, Rochester should have called WNY, but nobody does that but still called them Upstate NY, go figure! The only city in NY called themselves Central NY is Syracuse.
