New York

Really? I did not know you were living in Buffalo. For ASL interpreting program, I assume?

Not really, I was hoh but not seriously profound at the time, did accounting and document drafting for a law firm. I was attending U of South Carolina, it was a nice diversion to get away! ;) Didn't stay, missed the sun! LOL

Frisky Feline, many Islanders will leave LI in the next five years. Ridicilous rising of tax. 58 percent of homeowners have been struggling to pay for the mortgage.

Study: Bulk of Long Islanders Struggle to Pay Mortgage, Rent - Syosset, NY Patch

No wonder why my youngest sister still complains about her struggling budget but she earns 60,000 a year from her job. Something wrong with the picture in Long Island. My brother is happily living in Florida.

yeah that's why I don't live there anymore.

I've visited Lake George(with a friend) and Times Square(alone). I liked both, but when I was at Lake George had no money and I was going through a bout of Meneieres so Times Square was more fun. I was there for the 4th of July and the city had a decent fireworks show. As I'm walking back from the show, the guy in front of me is arguing with his girlfriend and asked me if he was right. I couldn't hear half the conversation so I told him I was deaf. He was really bummed about it. I saw Twinight: Eclipse there. I'll tell ya, if you are not deaf, a bunch of 40 year old women and their teenage daughters screaming when Taylor Laurent takes his shirt off will take care of that for ya, sadly. I think it was on 42nd st, but it could have been 62nd, I'd have to look at the ticket. I went up to the roof which had a good view of street.

All in all, a nice time in NY. I recommend the cruise around Manhatten, worth the money.

I've been to NYC twice, Niagara Falls and Rochester. Haven't really ventured around much to know any difference but in overall, It wasn't too bad. It was quite pleasant.

seriously guys --- living in upstate is as good as it gets. 2-5 hour driving in West or east, south lets you go to major attractions. niagra falls? NYC? Adirondacks? amusement parks? camping is ALLLL over the state. lakes? grand canyon of the east? (letchworth). corning glass? jello factory? 4 wheeling? skiing/snowboarding? snowmobiling at tug hill? boating? fishing?

Here in NYS we dont have to worry about MAJOR natural disasters . no hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, extreme long term drought, floods, slides. We do get these disasters, but on a small scale and we can recover in no time at all in few days or week max, not like other states where is stronger or bigger or whatever.

Tell that to those who were affected by Superstorm Sandy. But, you're right, until the last couple of years, the mid-atlantic/northest was rarely affected by these kinds of storms.

note I said upstate. not NYC. BIG difference. also when "hurricanes" go inland - they have never, ever stayed above tropical depression strength by the time it passes over upstate ny.

yea I notice that up state is more controllable weather than when I used to live in long island. that's a big difference. cool

Exactly, that is why I don't mind Blizzard its nothing compare to hurricanes.

yup -- most of snow is gone -- just got home just now, thick fog and rain.

yikes at what radioman and diehardbiker describes about the weather. yea same here

never lived in NYC. :)

so what do you think of up state, nyc and long island? ;)

I don't know LI too much. I went to Montauk for whale watching trip a few times. Upstate is nice, but too lonely for me. I like the city.

Downstate yes, upstate no. Hurricane Sandy WAS here at my residence and it was NOTHING, just rain, little wind that is it.

Upstate NY has plenty of mountains and it is almost impossible for hurricane to stay hurricane once hit mountains. Once again, I am on other side of mountain :)

Often people get confused between upstate and downstate NY.

People get confused between upstate and downstate NY.
That's because everyone has their own definition of "upstate"

NYC people: Upstate is anything that is north of Yonkers or maybe as far as Croton.

Hudson Valley: Upstate is anything north of Albany

Albany: Upstate is the Adiroundack mountains

Adiroundack mountains: What is upstate?

It basically just means "really far away in the countryside".
