hi my friend and i probably plan to Japan on next year for a vacation. i love to explore everything amazing in tokyo but i want to know about safety and advices before travel to there. Help me. :)

My advice as a seasoned traveller, check out the travel advice section on the Japanese Embassy website (or Hong Kong, whichever you prefer) and they will generally give tips on do's and don'ts in their country. Also, you can visit travel guide websites for more information. Hope that helps. :)

I've never been out of my country -not even mexico or Canada- so I can't say.

I am going to Tokyo, Japan next week. If you want, I can give you tips and maybe contact information of people in Japan for you to get in contact with?

I did not have much luck in finding other deaf people, but I think I have found guide who is an interpreter working on developing skills.

I am going to write blog about my trip when I get back.

But of course I won't know for sure until I get there. :)

When I get back, I can try and see if I find this thread again and hopefully post in it with information that you were seeking.

But for now, my biggest advice is to start planning NOW. Don't be like me waiting until merely few months beforehand especially with foreign countries. You want to be able to find good seat in airplane, contact hotel to see if they have room, and to see if they do speak English. That was one of those thing I looked when I searched for hotel, to see if people there can speak some English.

Do you need an interpreter? That may make things a bit rough as you'll have to find a guide to assist, I am not sure about this.

Rude and uncustomary to eat while walking in Japan. Has to do with cultural manners, asians prefer to sit down and eat instead. Eating on public transportation is also frowned upon.
Don't smoke while walking.

Not all japanese are great at english, even though their schools incorporate it. A good amount of japanese don't put basic english composition and grammar as a part of their lifestyle, so be used to trying to use fragmented english.

If you can, learn some of the basic hiragana and katakana. It's actually not too hard and there are language charts available. Many non-kanji words can be looked up in a dictionary or online.

$ 1000 yen (¥ or 円) is equivalent to ~$11 US. You will see the signs around fairly often. ¥40,000 ¥7000 and so on.

The asia hotel in Japan is the hotel that staff speaks english. I stayed there for 3 weeks while my family stayed there for a month. It is in Toyko, Japan. Yes, I was there two years ago.

wow, that's amazing what i heard you guys said. worse part i've had screach is finding a lower fly price, these are pretty expensive if i stay at there around 3 weeks. So, I better save lot of money from keep to work extra hours in overnight..LOL
Hey Naisho, Teach me more words like what you said earlier. lol

My deaf friend named Sandra, she had been traveled over 50 states and 3 countries (germany, tawian, and she will go to india in this fall) in 4 years. but she never been in tokyo, japan. also sydney, australia..

Have you tried package deal? That what I used to find hotel and flight ticket.

Even though I am going soon, I think the best time to go there is actually during spring and fall season. With spring season you can see cherry blossom trees (supposed to be very beautiful). Summer season is very hot and humid along with it being rain season.

Yeah, I did my research. :-P

Also try the japan guide website. There you can ask questions and people who either traveled there or live in Japan will answer your questions if they know it.

Of course, i have tried the package deals in flight sites before, both of them are really cheaper than only flight. and i haven't find any deaf people live in japan. whoever can guide with me and my friend to there so possibly. anyway, which of travel guide site you can give me?

Mod note:

Thread's moved from Introduce Yourself to Travel & Leisure.

Maybe you could search on facebook group, if there is Deaf events or Deaf club in Japan where they get together etc.

If I were to go to Japan the first place I would check out would be Reigando Cave. Its actually one of the few places outside of the US that I want to visit.
