Okay. Skinheads are a hate group that is violent against others based on superficial characteristics such as race. They are truly the scum of the earth.

Me either. Altho, I believe it has to do with the influence from their childhood and their hate for someone grows. No displine or education about respecting others, etc. Who knows what their backgrounds were. I'm sure they all had different backgrounds in the past.
 
this story about the Paiute family being attacked is very sad - especially so for me since I'm not surprised by it. Southwestern towns are notorious for hate crimes against Native people:(

That's truly sad. The native americans were here first and the whites have strong hate against them? That makes no sense at all. :( Maybe those skinheads were an ancestors of the white people who slaved black people and fought native indians for the land few hundred years ago.

I totally agree. This kind of hate and prejudice is taught from parent to child.

I guess every area has it's own particular prejudice. IMO, it is all about being frightened that their white privilege is disappearing, and they do whatever they think will prevent that.

I believe the same. I have some white family who grew up in a very white town. Seeing a person of different color is out of norm for them. I took my cousin who is white to a party which was mixed with my family (Native Americans) and several Latin friends. I could tell my cousin was way out of his comfort zone. Next day he was posting racist things on his facebook about some people at the party. He was never exposed to other races and only could think of racial hate to deal with his feelings being out of his comfort zone.

I see the same with white people at malls. If there is a group of black people walking past a white guy. The white guy acts very different. I really believe it is their upbringing just like you said.

It doesn't make sense. That is why it is so horrible. It can't be justified in any way. And truth be told, those skinheads no doubt have some Native American and Black blood in their veins.

:wave: deafskeptic, no I honestly don't live there.
I've visited and I've read narratives and histories of things that have happened. I look at various papers such as Indian Country Today and other magazines and papers that tell things that may not be touched on otherwise.

My dad and his family lived in Texas for a year when he was a child. Their family doctor recommended that they move there at that time thinking that the warmer climate would be better for my aunt's <dad's younger sister, now dead> health. They moved from Chicago, from large extended family.
The family didn't really like the climate though and They ran into Klan there and had some stuff happen and left.

Also as a Jew, it is useful for me to know this history and know what I could be dealing with when traveling. In small towns or more isolated areas no matter where I am, I'm always conscious of this fact.
 
Yeah...I wonder if the hate crimes actually exist in Iowa since it is a VERY white state. :lol: I don't think I have heard of one or maybe I have overlooked one.

In California, hate crimes generally are rare due that it is very diverse state. Altho, there is a huge problem with gang territorizing other gangs and some innocent bystanders getting killed by gang's territory.
