my DVD collection

Who? Me? Yeah. We DO have the Friends boxsets, but it's owned by my boyfriend's mum so it doesn't count. We're buying our own anyway.

well it's good that you two got most great movies so it seems that you really know which one is worth to watch and which isn't and all so your cool. ;) lol

I've never seen "sweet home alabama" but I thought it looks pretty funny...and Artificial Intelligence was weird enough all right, but somehow, it was a pretty cool movie...almost identical to Mintory Report, which was good also.

I also noticed that you two are fans of Jay and Silent Bob, aye? I think they rox! :D
I definetly loved "jeresy girl" which was directed by Kevin Smith aka Silent Bob...it was absloutely hiralous and I recommend you to see this one sometime...but if you did, then your super cool. :thumb:
Didn't you also see "chasing amy"? I thought that one was pretty good too.
Those guys are just pure genesis and I can't wait to watch some more coming. :D

nice collection, by the way. keep 'em coming ;)

Since some of you guys have over 100 dvd... i'm asking you guys.. why you collect them for?

For me.. i collect DVD in case i'm boring and can watch movie. or if friends come over we watch the movie.. i joined Columbiahouse.com have you guys joined it?
i only have 33 DVD so far.. started DVD club last year :D

EDIT: and yeah i buy 'DVD thats only worth to watch often :P

are you talking about this movie "rules of fatal attraction"? if that's the one, then I'm sorry to say but I didn't really like this one...it just seems abit too much, if you ask me. Even that guy, James "something" seems to be kinda crazy or something...and whenever he gets some letters from a girl, he started messing them up as he mastubrates and sniffs the perfume from the letter...we don't need to see that, you know? *shudders* that just sickens me, but if you really liked that one, then I dont blame you because I'm not much of an movie expert like my brother is...he is definetly the movie dude, and I'm more into anime and videogames so I like to watch some pretty good movies in awhile though. :)

because those movies can be worth a fortune someday. Movies are one of the most popular to make and to see in life, and to show how Entertainment is made and how we entertain the world, with such profits, benefits, and stuff you know? movies are worth millions of dollars to make, and let's say it's the year 2050 and you have a movie that was made in the 1980s...it would be worth a fortune...proably like $500 or more! so, pretty much about everything around you, anything can be worth a fortune someday lol ;)

you would think that its value wil go up> I kinda have a doubt in that.. Since many movies's value went down after it turns 3 or more years old. at wal-mart movies worth 2 for $11 are old movies. and yet they're popular movies too during the 90's 80's and so on.

also i believe the next generation of movies will no longer be in DVD.. i am sure they'll have a new tech. so people can't make copies... for example new tech the VHS started back decades ago.. and now people can make copies etc...
Now the new tech 'DVD burner' people can make copies of movie by connecting the computer to the T.V. and record into the DVD burner. Also they have DVD recorder for people to record their shows from cable t.v., broadcast t.v. so on.. and i bet soon new tech will come where its almost impossible to make copies.

Actually, that's where you're wrong. The next generation will be the HD DVD format. They are going to bring out the HD DVD format in 2007.

The current DVD format will be backward compatible with the HD DVD players, and I believe that will go on for a long period unlikely the VHS format.

DVD players, some of them are capable of playing MP3, VCD, SVCD because they're all on discs making it easier to be backward compatible with the today's DVD players.

They will not turn their backs to the disc users, because the disc formats has been around for a long time and it won't go away anytime soon.

But in 2020, that may change to something else but I doubt it'll be much of a difference from now only with more storage.

The disc format has been around for like at least 2 decades.

holy shit some of you people have quite collection on DVDs. I am not "couch potato" guy so I don't have that many and hardly watch any shows on TV. however I got only 35 Hollywood DVDs and 59 anime DVDs. I don't have the digital camera at this moment, I am going to buy a new Sony or Canon 5.0 megapixel digital camera at BestBuy soon. I plan to buy some TV serie DVDs as well like X-Files, Friends, Sliders and few.. Actually I prefer to wait for new X-Files DVDs to come out which will be more cheaper compare to first release of X-Files ($100 and higher, that which is ridiculously expensive DVDs). There will be approx $50 - $70 for second releases of X-Files seasons.

DVD will be a long-term format for certain duration. Banjo, don't forget about Blu-Ray DVDs as well. Blu-Ray DVDs contains 26 GBs on one side, approx 50 gbs on both side. In other words, one entire season can be compress into ONE DVD instead of 6-7 DVDs.. woot! Blu-Ray DVD players will come out in 1-3 years.. it depends on FCC, manufacture/part costs and few factors.

Yeah, I am quite looking forward to the Blu-Ray DVDs, I wouldn't mind replacing my TV shows with these Blu-Ray DVDs in order to save more room.

But, one problem I see. TV shows may not fit on just one disc. The thing is, it's all about the compression.

On regular DVDs, TV shows and movies are heavily compressed and I mean heavy. A good 2 hours worth of movie footage would take at least 150 GB, but they cannot fit it on a DVD. So they have to compress it very heavily to fit it on one DVD which is why we usually get a second disc for the special features.

Maybe they won't really save us any storage. :-/

But, I do look forward to the high quality DVDs!
