As an avid DVD collector, I believe it is all about quality and not quantity. Anyone can collect a lot of DVDs but it takes a bit of saving (credit card excepted) to buy the DVDs that are expensive but worth it in the end. Does anyone order online?
It is quite obvious that I'm an avid DVD collector.
About the quantity thing, regular DVD collectors should buy the movies they like, not the ones they don't care for.
For me, I like to collect a lot of expensive DVDs, because it's a hobby of mine. But I also buy a lot of low-priced DVDs because there are a lot of movies that I am quite fondly of. But if a special edition come along, I'll just give the old copy to a friend of mine. From the beginning, I always wanted to have a big library of entertainment, and for everybody to watch. I don't collect all of these DVDs just for myself, there are times that I buy for the others to watch, but keep it in my collection.
I have a DVD database on my computer, whenever somebody borrow a DVD or more from me, I put their names down on it in order to prevent them from keeping my materials as if it was theirs.
I am quite selective, and if the DVDs are cheap enough to be rented, I buy them instead of renting because if I end up liking it, why waste more money to buy a copy?
I am flexible with cheap DVDs because I can easily afford them and it is my goal to expand my library with more titles, but I am careful with expensive DVDs, I buy quite a lot of them. I recently bought The Monster Legacy from Universal Studios, what a nice collector's set it was with the busts of the Wolfman, Frankstein's Monster, and Dracula. The Monster Legacy has 14 films, yup, 14 films!
I don't rent much, I only rented 3 or 4 movies in April alone, and a couple back in March. It shows that I am much more interested in having a big library of titles instead of a limited library.
I am very picky with selecting a movie to view, which is another reason why I have a large library.
