I have now finally accepted the fact that I am Deaf/Blind.

Although my vision with corrective lenses is 20/30.

I am growing more and more frustrated.

I failed the physical to become a Van Driver. I already told my boss I would fail it. Due to my field vision is limited.

but that is not what the Dr. Failed me for. She failed the physical due to my Deafness.

I was appalled!! I asked her again..."Why did you fail my physical?" She said that I need to get new corrective lenses and that will fix my eyes. but I failed the physical due to my hearing loss.

Fix my eyes! I was like WTF. I failed the field vision test that they gave me and she thinks Glasses will fix that.

There is no glasses out there that can do that to my knowledge.

I know it is for the best that I did fail the test. but it was all for the wrong reasons.

I'm sorry to hear about what you are going through now. Deafblindness is tough at first, but there is light at the other end of the tunnel.

Thank you.. I have been aware of it for a while now. Just took me long time to accept the facts. I am still trying to comprehend it all.

Just to let you know that you are going through the hardest parts now. At least they were hardest for me. Even though I had lots more sight and hearing then I do now.

It's good that you are accepting your problems though. Trust me. It will get easier in time. It's just a matter of adapting.

Right now my vision is 20/30 looking through the vision screening lenses with my glasses on. My field vision I failed miserably.

I have night blindness.

Yes it is hard for me.

How did you cope. Were you born deaf and discovered visual problems later? Or Vice Versa?

I was born HOH, mildly asperger, thyroid deficent, with Petit mal epilepsy so in my case it was a bit of everything. Add a series of minor invisible disabilites on top of being half french at a time when the french are openly disliked doesn't help matters.

My sight didn't start going until I was 17. Before that I only had problem with 3d.

When my sight did start to go I went to pieces. I even tried overdosing a few times. I used to do fine point embroyery and drawings. It meant major changes for me. As I said it wasn't easy.

It does get better in time though. Right now I'm profoundly deaf. Sometimes I have a little vision. Sometimes I don't. It's not something I can rely on. Getting used to my light sensitivity issues weren't too easy either but I'm determined to adapt to all this. I think it's a matter of developing the right mindset to except deafblindness and move on. Rather then clinging to false hopes.

Have you looked into any rehab yet?

I have looked into a few places.

I suspect, I have Usher Syndrome II. Not officially diagnosed with it yet. But when one put 2 and 2 together.

I have an Appt. Next month to be tested for it.

And it has gotten me depressed. Because, I pretty much already know what the outcome will be.

I cannot help but Sorry about that.. Glad that you are preparing for this? :)

I am work in process to move on. :)

I can do with out the sympathy. Just need some advice, and some help in comprehending what I will be facing.

I am not trying to sound mean or bitter. I just want everyone to know I am not seeking for pity.

I am seeking advices, and seeking for someone... to knock some sense in me.

Another words.. I am seeking people for support. :)

Here's another one:  (not sympathy, but a lot of empathy:giggle:)

The advise I will leave to those with experience in living with deafblindness.

yes of course all free! it has specially engineered just for you. It's even ergonomic for your face! The tint on lens will automatically be adjusted as according to amount of sunlight. The lens are developed by the best minds in the world so that you can see clearly. Since you have night blindness, it has the same technology as developed for Batman - the night vision without that annoying green color!

:cool2:

As soon as you get the official Usher's syndrome diagnosis, go to Florida's commission for the blind and get training before it goes too far so you will already be ready.

Funny thing is... That annoying green color helps me get around at times. I would take my video camera(on night vision) and walk around with it at night when I am camping and able to see where I am going. (no joke)

So if one is to make glasses, for me to do so would be an absolute hero!!!
