Moving to California

Eh, not all areas are in the million range. Grass Valley has a pretty cheap housing/rent. Maybe I should just move back... Way better than New York. Grass Valley is also only an hour drive from Sacramento and it's nestled in the foothills of Sierras. It's a very cozy area. Not all of California have the cold/snow. The coast is pretty warm. I think California is an unique state because it has literally everything from the snow capped mountains to desert.

If you want, can always live in the valley where the ocean and mountains are on opposite sides. Easy access to anything!

Hey, would you like to live in Rough and Ready? It's an actual town name and it's in Nevada County. It's right next to Grass Valley.

I just checked out houses for sale in Modesto and they're in the million$!!
Are you planning on buying or renting? I thought of moving back to Cal. as I am getting sick of the cold and snow!! But the prices of homes are way out of my price range!

Renting. Owning won't happen anytime soon.

I spent a few years in the San Fernando Valley and Orange County areas. Good deaf population. Close to many things. But I probably would not do it again, as I am not such a big fan of big metro areas anymore.

Cool. I'm not a fan of south California, though.

Yep, agreed! California has a diverse climate and geography for sure! I love the mediterranean climate at the North coast.

 I never heard of that place before. If I lived there...someone asks me where do you live? Rough and Ready, California. Is that an actual town? Yes, it is...... LOL That look would be funny.

I did not like Southern Cal. I liked Berkeley, but that is the city and I bet it is a lot difference now! Have you thought of going online and try to finds some news papers from a town you would like to move to.? You may be able to get a feel for the place by seeing what is going there. There may be a blog put out about a town you have in mind.

I've been to and liked the Grass Valley area....liked it for it's relative isolation and scenic beauty. Did some gold panning there....that was fun.

Yeah, good idea. I got some time to research, though. :) My mom grew up in Berkeley in her teenager and early adult years before she had me.

When I moved to Calf about 40 years ago it was to get away from the winters!
And we had the worst winter in 35 years in Northern Cal! It snowed! People water lines froze as they where above the ground and people cars engines got damages as they did not have enough anti freeze in the their cars! We had to melt snow for water!

Wow, that's crazy!

I go to city-data.com forums to research on cities to live and their point of views. It is a very active forum. Lot of people come there to ask what cities to suggest to live in before moving there or something like that.

Wirelessly posted

It would be a great idea to find work here before moving . We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country right now, and they say it won't improve anytime soon. Good luck on the move. BTW ain't nothin wrong with So. Cal lived there all my life.
