Hey guys! We are thinking about a option to move to Calif next year at the earliest because my car will be paid off at the time. I am a native Californian as well. California has changed a lot in the last 10 years or so which is why I'm wondering where is the cheaper, good place for our family to live in. We want to try avoiding big metro areas and I prefer North California region. Do you know any recommendations since there are a handful of members here live in North Calif currently. I would appreciate it thanks!

Nevada County! That's where I hail from. Wonderful rural area. Plus it has tons of trees!

Los Angeles and Orange County, just kidding.

I think that Sacramento may meet your needs because they are cheaper place to live.

Sound nice. but high cost of living and high price of gas than other states except Hawaii.

Is that next to Butte County? I think that's where Nevada, Grass Valley, etc is.

Eh, Sacramento is a big metro area. Think he prefers somewhere rural or somewhat isolated.

I'm actually from Grass Valley area. Nevada City/Grass Valley is in Nevada County. Butte County is kinda next to Nevada County, just one county over. Butte County has Chico and Oroville.

Not too rural like with 5,000 people...haha. I would like something lot bigger than that. I live in a metro area of around 165k here in Iowa. Just good sized with some jobs and not too dead, you know? I think Redding is one of them but I heard Redding is kinda hurting, so not sure.

Ahhh, yeah thought so. I remember going up to Yuba River in the Sierra foothills and had fun there.

Big metro areas in California usually are ridiciously expensive unless you know where to find cheapies.

I lived in California, Humboldt county in a small town called Whitethorn. And I loved it there! This was about 38 years ago so I bet it not the same there anymore. I did look up some homes online and you can find a few that are reasonable in price in Humboldt . If you do move to California and plan to lived in the Northern part you have made sure there is WATER there! I knew someone that brought land in Humboldt county and they did not realize they they needed to made sure they could get water to their house that wanted to build! The land was hilly and this meant the rain water just when down hill, and they had no luck when trying to dig a water hole! I would love to be able to have a small log cabin in the country! Keep in touch when you move to California, I would love to hear how you like and where you do move to!

Interesting! There is always a barrel to attach to the gutter...you get free water that way. IT rains a lot more in Northwest California close to Oregon. Yeah, there are a lot of cheap places up in Northwest CA and wayyy North Ca as well. Don't be surprised to see shitload of tiny frogs and slugs.

We where having huge rain storm in Whitetorn, and the water was pouring out of the rain gutter ,so I decided it was great way to wash my hair! So I did and stood under my friend's house naked and took a shower ! It was one of the best showers I ever had! Right outside in the woods! Tell me about the rain! I did not realize how much RAIN you got up there and it rain for days! I was living in a cabin in off a dirt with my Samoyed Husky. And I ran out of fire wood! I had to break a wooden chair up for firewood!! The old timers would laugh at us hippies as we need not know how live in the woods! People would clear down a dirt road ,but they did did not know they had to build a drench for the rain water to run down! So every time we got a heavy rain fall , the part of the road would get washed away! This happen to my road . My boyfriend told me that I had to move off the road as pretty soon
there will be no road to drive his truck on! My dog and I moved into a chicken coop minus the chicken! Man I had a blast out there!!

That sounds like an adventure. I remember the rainy days in Santa Rosa where I grew up for a good number of years. It would rain for a few days with water pouring out of the gutters that were clogged up bad, dang.

Modesto Ca? :D

I don't know that place well....tell me about that town? I did look into Madera as well. The rents there are fairly reasonable, I think.

I only went to Modesto once for a handball tournament and that is a long time ago.

At least they're a gateway to the sequoia groves. :D

nice little town, kinda family orientated, your within reaches of the capital, san fran, san jose, and santa cruz.

I just checked out houses for sale in Modesto and they're in the million$!!
Are you planning on buying or renting? I thought of moving back to Cal. as I am getting sick of the cold and snow!! But the prices of homes are way out of my price range!

I spent a few years in the San Fernando Valley and Orange County areas. Good deaf population. Close to many things. But I probably would not do it again, as I am not such a big fan of big metro areas anymore.
