I'm in the middle of packing my stuff, I am due to move out of my family home, in March, which is only around 5 - 6 weeks to go. It's actually my first time to move out, after attempting to move out for the last two years and it is going to be the biggest time I would experience -- moving out of home. It is really what I wanted to, I am from a large family, and it has been a madhouse.

I found a apartment, which is a small studio apartment, where I would be moving in. I have few questions, and just wanted to see what your first experiences were.

-- Today, I had a lot to think about, I don't have a computer with me to move out, we do have around 4 of it at the family home. I was considering to get one laptop for myself under $1,000 but would it be not a good idea if I did before I move. Do you agree that I should just hold it on a bit later and save the money I have for the rent and all?

-- What was your thoughts of the things you needed when you were in the stages of moving out for the first time?

I think that's all for now, I might ask more questions later on :D

Thanks Tweetybird and Lil_country_gal! :D

Ohh good luck! :D

And my answer to your questions..

Yes, I recommend to wait when you finish move in a new apartment, then buy computer. I buy a computer after I finish moved in my first small house at 588 sq ft at Salem, Oregon in past year 2005. It's better that way so you don't have to carry too much stuff whole in once, which are seems too much works ya know..

Furnitures and Kitchen Supplies, also Cleaning Supplies, they are very useful for you to use for your new home. Also have good stuff in the bathroom also. Try decorate your own dream for your home so that your home will make you feel like it's home, not just some other place that you are staying. It's kinda odd because I notice most of people who don't decorate moves more than people who decorate their home.

Anyway, good luck! :D

I agree with you, and it is the best for me to wait and see if I am well settled in so I can decide and get a laptop for myself. And yes, it would be a lot of hassle to take whatever I got over to my apartment. :S

Yeah, I would be most definite decorate my apartment to my comfort zone. A lot of things is what I needed, and it would be way different to the enviroment that I used to live in my family home. The apartment I have is not that BIG -- it is a nice small studio apartment which is just right for myself. I was considered to look for some doorknob devices. Boy, they are expensive here! :(

No problemo :)

lol guess you will get used with it.. I, myself, am a small spaces lover which I know not many people like small spaces, but I do, but anyway, hope you will be happy with a new studio apartments :)

I would suggest kitchen appliances, pots and pans and what not. So many people overlook this. They go to cook and realize - oh shit no stuff to cook with! My friends did that once and it was hilarious but definitely a learning moment for them.

Then I would REALLY suggest buying a whole new bedset just for you. Something you really like because you dont want to feel like your'e sleeping in the same drab ol' bed from childhood - this is YOUR bed, in YOUR home, not mum's and not dad's - this is JAKE's home!

Also dont forget TOWELS for the bathroom. There's nothing more irritating for me than to be soaking wet from a nice hot shower and no towels, which means streaking from the shower to the bedroom.

Oh yeah and definitely decorate the place to reflect you and what makes you feel comfortable.

I wish you all the best of luck and I wish I could be doing the same right about now but its going to be a few years.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Do you have 2nd hand store for furnitures? Sometimes you can find neat stuff in there..

Like Dixie said...new beddings (comforter, sheets etc), towels and kitchen items (pot, pans, silverwares, plates, cups, coffee maker-only if you drink coffee, toaster, things like that...) you can buy little by little start now? Keep eye on sale to fit yourself :) And cleaning supplies to keep house clean :)

.

The Second hand store is a great place to go! Yard sales too. You find a lot of neat stuff cheaper.

Yeah, I got 'em all now, bought some new pots over the weekend -- My mum bought some kitchen appliances ages ago and saved them for me. They got it on a good price that time. The stuff I have is now waiting in the garage, ready to be transported.

My own bed is staying at my parents house. There is already a double bed at the apartment ready for me, haha. Yeah, it is true that it is my home soon.

True, and I never forget about the bathroom appliances and cleaning stuff to count.

Will do that once I have the apartment stacked with packed boxes. I believe it would take whole weekend to unpack! But I'm sure, I'll ask some friends to come over and lend a hand.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Good luck and enjoy your freedom!

Why a laptop? Go for a desktop... a lot cheaper and can be easily upgraded later. :)

Also, why move now? What made you wait long before deciding?

Good luck with moving out... you'll enjoy it! I hope! ;)

Laptop so I can take it to university while studying, but I have thought of Desktop with two monitors....sounds good.

I am moving in march -- the owner is moving out in the end of next month. For the last two years that I have attempted to move out was due to money issues.

Thanks though, Vampy ;)

I know, I checked and found out that 'Canberra' isn't on the list and we don't have craig's list for canberra residents, unfortunately.
