Mind-Bending Puzzles

OK—now I think I get it. Even after I solved the translation, I still couldn’t figure out the exact reasoning behind the rearrangement pattern. Why were some of the words broken up into groups of 2 letters, and some broken up into 1 and 2 letter groups? The author decided beforehand that no group would contain more than 2 letters. Therefore, a word with an odd number of letters would have to have a letter standing alone. In the words which have an odd number of letters, it is the first letter of the word which is isolated.

Iraq? But proper names probably don't count, right?
Yep, you got the answer right. Where are you getting your answers!? :deal:

Except for the one about naming the fifth child, I figured them all out myself. The one about the fifth child I found on the Internet. When I saw Mitch and Isadore, I thought he was naming his children after hurricanes. So I Googled all four names to see if the other two were also names of hurricanes, and if they had hit some geographical location in that sequence. But all I found was a web page that had the same riddle. The scrambled backwards sentence was a ball buster. It took me an hour to figure it out. Did you make that one up yourself?

The one with the scrambled backwards message was made up by myself. The "Iraq" one was given to me by a friend.

Alright, here's a new one:
A father names his first four children, in order of birth:

CARL, PAUL, JANICE, MARIETTA

Each name progresses to the next using a rule. Which of the following names will the father give his next child?

JACQUELINE, SUZETTE, MARIANNE, ANDREW

Good concept... but, *buzzer sounds* you're wrong. Sorry.

I’m guessing Marianne. The second letter of his four current children’s names is "A". That would suggest that the only two possibilities are Marianne and Jacqueline. Both of his male children have "L" as the fourth letter of their names, and both of his female children have "I" as the fourth letter. This suggests that the answer is Marianne.

Nope. Interesting concept, but wrong.
