I don't think this excuses hiring illegals, but let me pose a question: is it possible that Americans, on the whole, are too snooty and full of themselves to take certain kinds of jobs, and think it's "beneath them" somehow?

Some are and others are just lazy.
Most people hire the illegals because they will work cheaper not just harder.

sad but true

:werd: I spoke with my friend on VP today about our mexican buddies who become legal US citizens last year. They have been worked for Ross store for several years at same hourly wage...for measly $8 per hour. Even though they recently got promoted into assistant managers, they still got paid at same amount. However, they recently moved back to Arizona from Nevada, they are demoted. The guy plans to quit Ross in order to search for job with more money.

Possibly.

It seems more and more Americans, especially younger ones, expect executive wages, full benefits, and work that doesn't produce any sweat, right after high school graduation. Few people want to work their way up the ladder, or even work their way thru college.

Honestly, literally, I cleaned many toilets and restroom floors to pay for my college ITP. "Menial" dirty work and sweat doesn't bother me. I am grateful to still be physically able to do such work :) (I am age 54 years). Now, I work as terp at a college but if I needed to I could pick up a scrub brush in a flash and get the job done.

Maybe modern American "high self-esteem" can't handle low-prestige labor.

Not a good sign considering we should be trying to be more service-oriented. :(

BTW, congrats on Post 5000!

Really, the service industry is growing, and manufacturing is decreasing in the U.S. Specialized services is where it's at for the future.

Thank you (blush).

Whoops, that was poorly written! I was thinking "service" in terms of serving others. And sometimes that means getting your hands dirty.

I think that they should do this. America is not just a country that you can just walk into. It's not only the illegal Mexican immigrants that we have to worry about, it's the terrorists. If it was easy for people to sneak in the Unite States, then terrorists could easily fly to Mexico and enter then United States. That wouldn't be good. :nono:

You brought up a good point, I haven't thought of it. :ty:

This is a very heated issue these days -- been reading in the papers about whether to open or keep borders closed at the borders of California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona. It's hard because I know a lot of Mexicans who have moved to California for a better life, better jobs, better opportunities to build a better life for their children, etc. I know they should enter the U.S. the legal way, but since I think the U.S.'s a bit too harsh on the immigration policies and progress of obtaining a Green Card in order to live and work legally in the U.S. of A. I've heard it takes like up to 10 years before a Green Card is issued to a legal migrant!
It only took me 17 weeks to get a visa allowing me to move overseas and live in Australia, where I lived for 6.5 years...2 years after having moved there, I obtained permanent residency of Australia.

Canada is very strict and kept question you... If Canada border staff supsect on you.. and will tell you pull over to the inspector station. Ain't fun.. checking your ID and checking your ID on computerzing takes 10 minutes and to investingtion "who really are you?" blah blah.. One time, I had to return my hometown from usa.. Whoa.. wait minute, I live there.. every details.. took my ID and thinks I'm faking.. Geez.. Wha.. a touchy? I waited for 10 minutes.. finally.. Let me entred into the canada border.. I told canada border staff, please next time, proprite ask question.. bring frigg'n interpreter who can sign lang whoever canada border staff can communcation w/Deaf people..
*groan*~ :eek2:

If suppose you visit.. They'll question you more..
That reason They are protecting their terroritor homeland canada values before accept welcoming you... due spoiled by 9/11.
They are planning annocement 110% passbook carried all the time no matter what.. condiser stripes card set it up but not made their conference settlement yet.

Is it the same degree of strictness for:

1. leaving Canada and then entering the USA

2. leaving the USA and then entering Canada

3. entering Canada from other countries (NOT USA)

???

Mexico's border covers 4 states. Canada's border covers
the entire northern section of the United States. Are
you telling me that all ways to get across the border
from Canada are covered? I personally believe Banjo
is responsible for 95% of all the hemp coming into
the U.S.

Merely putting up a fence is an oversimplification as an idea. It is fraught with a multitude of problems that would need to be overcome. And the border to the Great White North is a problem, too for us and our friends there in terms of terrorists. I have a vaque recollection of some big-named terrorists coming here via Canada. We just need to keep working at it. This is truly a multi-faceted problem that won't go away any time soon.

Quite good question.. I have no aware of USA border coming from Canada..
Probably US securities aren't enough strong strictly.. btwn canada and us..
Maybe am I wrong..

We are not supposed to believe everything what the news tell you. Please use your common sense.

Webexplorer, really? What's your view on this, in a nutshell?
