I'm sure the priests will follow the dictate of the Vatican. But the majority of practicing Catholic men are blue collar workers, union members, and middle class. I'm hoping they will look at the real issues, instead of one singular issue. I have 2 uncles that have already expressed their support of Obama, and they have been Catholic for all of their 74 and 76 years. I'm hoping there are others out there. Likewise, between these 2 uncles are 7 sons, who no doubt will be voting for Obama just as their fathers are. It will be interesting to see how the vote plays out.

What about the Hispanic community since they are strong Catholics too? Remember that California and Florida are key states and in both states, there is a strong Hispanic community.

You are correct about that. I can't speak to the Hispanic communities in California and Florida, but I can say that the Hispanic voters around here are more concerned about social issues than the abortion issue. They figure that abortion being legal in no way interferes with their religious right not to have one.

Ur right Obamam is not Catholic, his running mate is Catholic and soon he will be ex-communicate by Bishops for his standing on pro-choice.

Its not a big deal today. It was in middle centuries because of the European nobility title system. In Europe nobels had no right to claim other nobels titles with few exceptions. One of the exception was being ex-commmunicated. If you were, it was giving other nobels right to claim your title and maintain it after defeating you. Thats why Vatican became a very important figure in European politics. There was only few instances kings were powerful enough to go against vatican and still hold their title.

Today this system does not exist. Thats why they try to influance voters. Being ex communicated might affect some voters decision, but its effects are not as vital as five century ago.

I wish my ex hubby and I were still friends cuz I could ask him since all of his family live in AZ and California. (For those who dont know, my ex hubby was born in Mexico and comes from a strong culturally Hispanic family).

Yeah, it would be interesting to get their viewpoint on it.

People need to keep in mind that Roe V Wade does not take away any woman's right to refuse an abortion. It only grants the right to each and every woman to decide for herself, based on her circumstances.

I dont think it will happen cuz we are not on friendly terms and his family has cut me out of their lives cuz I wont move back to AZ when he was ready to move back last year. They are angry with me for keeping my daughter away from them. I am not offended cuz it is their cultural values of families staying together. Just unfortunate that it has to come to this point. Oh well.

Better get back on topic...oops

Yeah, that is unfortunate.

Maybe avwdng can give us some insight on the Hispanic community's preference of candidate in her area?

I wish there is more men alike your uncles, not those elite Catholics on other forum whom they think they know all answer to within church. They are men mostly. I was surprised when one of them called me dumb thru email. How ingornat he was. Oh well.
My mother is only one left and rest of us left the church because of our liberal minds except for one sister of mine who is too conservative and Christian. We donot see eye to eye on whole things.

I understand. There are still a few of the "die hard" Catholics in my family, too, but most of them have really gotten much more liberal and realize that the church only has answers to spiritual matters, not political matters.

Yea, hope she comes in this thread.

My parents come from Catholic families but are not practicing. They may be voting for Obama because they said they sure as hell are not voting for McCain.

I'm not sure if they even know about 3rd party candidates.

Yeah, the Vatican no longer has the ultimate control it historically had, thank God!

Parents have been Democrats most of their lives but became cynical for a while. Father hates Bush and thinks LBJ had to do with Kennedy's death. That is probably far out but I'm hoping they vote for Obama. I can't force them and I rarely bring up politics anyway.

I have seen some already ex-communicate by bishops with order from Vacatin. One priest from MO, I can not remember excatly where his parishonher(mispelling) was, he was already ex-communicate for his being concern and voice on about $$$.. I have read in Catholic forum past few days and learned Vacation already consider do this with Binen and Peloski. We wait and see how it goes from here to there.

Now there's a quality that is important in a VP. A beautiful smile! Yep, I always look for that in a candidate. Much more important than intelligence and capability.
Pinky didn't say that those qualities were more important than intelligence or capability. She said only that she admired them.

My parents are both deceased, but were life long Democrats. Both were very concerned with social issues. I have no doubt they would be voting Obama.

Because she is beautiful and have 5 children and was a mayor of 9 thousand people in alaska, is this what she admired her for this?

I am so happy that McCain picked Sarah Palin for VP. She is very beautiful! I love her beautiful smile. I am sure that they will be great president than Obama and Biden. Sarah is the most experience in her own state than Liberal made up a liar about polar bear, against drill an oil.

Sarah Palin was a Pargent Queen of Miss Alaska long times ago. She is so bright as beautiful spirit ever I saw. She have a beautiful 5 kids. Her last son has down syndrome age 6 months old.

Are you saying that all liberal are liar?

I´m not interesting to know about her look, Miss Alaska, etc. but her political experience.

I find very sad that she neglect her son with down sydrome´s special need for her career as VP.
