Mac- I can't open anything help!!

I suspect that it has to do with your battery. Just check on Apple website to see if there is a battery recall for some laptops.

In case, if the screen is black, then the battery is definitely the problem - even the wire is plugged. I had that problem with my old iBook, and I was lucky to get it fixed before it was near expired for the warranty.

I am sure my battery is fine. Because I got my laptop less year ago.

Gee. It sounds bad to me. I recommend you this time to uncheck box something not to save the previous OS X preferences (i.e. Archive) for formating the hard disk. It isn't fun to do this job. I hope that you have the OS X to format it. Awhile it is formating the HD, go out for a walk for a hour.

If you really want the Parallels, then install it after you formated the hard disk to see what happens. I think that it should be fine because the company tested the software on a clean OS X before the company sells them out to people.

If no luck, then re-format it with no Archive, and send the Parellel back to the store. Get your money back. Then wait for the company to announce that it will be ready as 100 perfect.

Okay I will do it. I am gonna not save peferences see what happen then I will let you know what happen. If nothing else work I guess I will have to bring to genuis bar it probably cost lot of money!

Huh? you got it like this? so it sound like it was a used MacBook eh?

Genius Bar don't cost you anything if resolved on the spot. but if found that it needed to be sent to Apple then that's when charges are issued.

Had you lived in my area, I am sure I can sort it out for you in person but you are over there in LA sorry..

well, either way works. I didn't think about just re installing it instead of formatting it. also I use a 40 gb hard drive, too. smile. p.s. I was and am never a windows user. I've been a mac user since 1993. before that, I had an atari.

sorry for off the point. lets see what we can do with that issue.

WELL
I am a Apple user since 1978 I read MacWorld and MacLife(formerly MacAddict) since they came out and still a current subscriber.

I read forums like Macfora Forums or macosx.com - Support Forums and read mac news via Watchster - Mac News and MacSurfer's Headline News™

If you have one year warranty, you should bring your laptop to an Apple store.
(Just make sure you bring a copy of your receipt.) I may think that your laptop is lemon - maybe not... It's worth for you to bring it to the store. I am sorry that you are frustrated.

Yes, I tried Safe Boot and it didn't work I called Apple Tech support first thing already before I post my problems on macbook on alldeaf and apple.com. When I press "Safe boot" and screen turn black and didn't come back or show anything on screen for long time and it act like computer was power off (power plug in)

I will check if I have one year warranty. I always kept reciept in my File Cabinet. I agree with you. I think one I got it might lemon. But I am still stay on Mac I am not thinking about switch to PC. I think I just need get all PC stuff change into Apple stuff that would be work without using Parallel Desktop.

Guess what I went to Apple Store and have my laptop check up. They told me that my Hard Drive need to be replace so they did replace my Hard Drive. I lose all my programs and some files but most files are pretty fine. I have my laptop back next day. Now I am looking for best back-up than .Mac Back-up because I don't want to pay monthly for that. Anybody have any idea which best back up for Mac?

That's a good question.

I have a Seagate external hard disk drive. It's Seagate 160 GB. I like it. I bought it 1 1/2 years ago. I am sure that there are many good external HD, increase HD's sizes, and less money by now.

Many companies do not tell the truth about their hard disk sizes. My HD has 160 GB, but it is really about 150 GB. Suppose, you bought a 300 GB, and it has to be about 270 GB. I am giving you a general idea.

Amazon.com: Seagate Technology 200 GB USB 2.0 and FireWire External Drive ( ST3200823A-RK ): Electronics

I recommend you not to buy an external hard disk drive on eBay because it is used and might wear out for less than one year. My suggestion is for you to compare them on:

NexTag - Compare Prices Before You Buy
mySimon - Price Comparison Shopping - Compare Prices - Unique Gift Ideas
PriceMac.com: Price comparison, Best Deal compare Macintosh prices
(I don't know what other website is better than these websites.)

This is false information and companies are not lying about their hard disk sizes.

It's 1024 Megabytes = 1Gigabytes

Companies print thier harddrive in true Megabytes specs and the OS displays it in Gigabytes

A hardrives with 300,000 Megabytes is 279GB.

The hard disk contains some hidden MS-DOS and other files on a blank disk for the directory. Is that correct?

Hmm... I wonder if that was just a cover up so that they could keep your hard drive for their own mischievous purposes. :dunno:

I've heard of this happening with Geek Squad. :Ohno:

New harddrive contains nothing but blank disk ready to be formatted

Factory prints on the harddrive label in bytes and Windows XP reports them in Gigabytes so that why 2 different numbers in G but both are the same measurement.

I know it confusing and strange but harddrive factory is being truthful with their size of their drives.
