lost more hearing...

More trouble, the more to spend, is what Canada often anything for you to get one, eh?

We should start a purple Naida club! I get to be the president since I got mine first ;-)

Hey Alicia, I've got the Naida, too, and like you, I have a progressive loss. I remember the last time I had a hearing test, about a year ago, and I had lost up to 15db in some of the key midranges. My speech scores dropped from 20% without visual cues to 2%. I was pretty frustrated, but oh well, fairly used to it at this point. I think it was harder on the audiologist than me, LOL!

The Naida is powerful, but the transpositional feature is useless if you have a profound loss at 1500hz and above (which I do). It can't compress frequencies any lower than that. But, the stuff like water-resistance, anti-feedback, whistleblock, etc. are pretty nifty and make it worth it for me.

I'm fairly happy with them, even though the reality is no hearing aid is really going to help my loss much. What does your loss look like? Do you have normal hearing in any frequencies? I'm curious, cause I don't meet many people with a loss like mine, where I have normal hearing in some of the lower frequencies and absolutely nothing beyond 1000hz.

Good luck!

Oh, and I have black housing. I wanted the black and silver, but they screwed up the order and I didn't feel like waiting 6 weeks to wait for change.

alicia's hearing loss has progressed since then, if i remember correctly?

I'm ask if you have limited or unlimited to get your hearing aids fix under the health care benefit.

I'm not sure how it is done in Canada but I know I got a 40% trade in for hearing aids that were less than 6 months old for a power aid. In the last year I have spent over 8500.00 . The first pair were over 5k the second were worth 5600 but I got the 40% trade in so I had to pay about 3600 the second set less than 6 months later.. sucks =(

Since it's will be my 3rd pair in less than 3 years phonak will pay since ive lost my hearing in less than a year of me getting my 2nd pair. Phonak is really good with replacing aids in a hearing loss situation esp when my hearing has changes so often apparently. My hearing has gone down 4-5 times I believe since my hearing has been below normal. I have veryyyyy bad tinnitus too drves me nuts! Last time I checked my hearing was between 60-85 dB loss in all frequencies..can't find the audiogram and I know it's gotten worse. Since I got the versatas last january my hearing has changed once and now so twice.

THewritealex- I do not have any hearing that is at normal hearing levels

JennyB- woot for purple :)

in one on one quiet settings yes...if there is noise..then i have a reallllyyyy hard time and I have to lip read ...im finding my clinic days at school very challenging cuz it's spa time and the lights are dimmed and we get anywhere from 12-22 clients in for treatment at the same time and its tough cuz the lighting sucks and everyone talks at the same time...and sometimes i just wanna take my ha's out and cry cuz i get frustrated...and my teacher got mad at me last week cuz i cant whisper..yet she knows im deaf..my classmates gave her the dirtiest looks when seh called me out on it in front of them

Thanks botti,
Im handling it ok..i don't mind being deaf...just hard when ppl can't make it a tad easier u know..esp when my teacher knows im deaf just makes me a bit angry that she doesn't understand or even try to

Hi. Hope you are doing well.
I think Phonak Naida are great and have plenty of power to them. My sister and I have lost more hearing, mine over 8 months time, and we both have Naida hearing aids. No one seems to be able to tell us why this is happening. It is good to know that if there needs to be changes that they can be made in the programs of the Naida and there is no need to have to buy another hearing aid, just have the Naidas adjusted. I have a 88db loss in my right ear and a 110+ loss in my left ear and the Naidas are a blessing. At my last audio visit, I asked to see my audiogram and was disappointed that it went from 70db to 88db in two years. I felt like crying and but didnt want to show my sister that I was upset. Its tough to deal with losing more hearing and not knowing what it is that is taking it from you.
Anyway since getting my Naida ultrpower V hearing aids, I have been able to hear things in a different way and the transposition feature helps you to hear things that were too high to hear before. Its tough to get used to at first but when the little things like sounds of water, tags, alarms, the door sqeaking and other noises "appear" to you, its so exciting.
I agree that there should be a purple Naida group! My twin sister and I both happen to choose purple as well. Great color for hearing aids. IMO
Have a great day everyone. :)

I sympathise completely, I have exactly the same experiences at work.

I'm presently doing a nursing placement with teenage patients. One of the girls was shouting at me today trying to get my attention and one of the boys told her 'Don't shout at her, she wears hearing aids'. I thought that was really sweet of him because many adult patients don't have that much understanding.

ya ppl can be ridiculously rude! one girl in my class is like this and always makes comments bout me being too loud and mutters rude things to me or about me under her breath knowing i wont hear her...so i told her to her face if she has a problem to say it directly to me and not to everyone else

WOW! Your hearing took nosedive big time since you started losing hearing isn't it crazy to think "I'm deaf"? Did you get score on speech comprehension test yet to see if you're scoring less than 60%? It won't be that long until you will need ci I'll bet end of 2010 you'll need one scary!
