This is not my pet. It's a bunny that showed up in our backyard this morning.

We often have wild rabbits in our yard but this one looks different. He was really large, and chocolate brown. He was very tame; Hubby got to within about three feet of him, and fed him carrots.

We think he is a pet bunny that escaped someone's yard.

This is the second "stray" that showed up in my yard this week.

A few days ago, a large, elderly, chocolate Lab showed up in my front yard while I was gardening. He wouldn't let me get close enough to check his collar for a tag. I didn't recognized him from the neighborhood.

He strolled into my back yard, so I quietly followed, and then closed the gate behind me. He didn't try to get out. Instead, he drank water out of my lower bird bath, and rolled around under the spray from my water sprinkler. He was soaked!

I could see that there was no tag on his collar, so I didn't know who to call. I took a piece of plywood, and used a Sharpie to make a sign, "found dog". I propped it up against my mailbox out front. I hoped if someone was driving around, looking for their dog, they would see the sign.

My mail lady stopped at the box, and gave me my mail. She said that some people in a subdivision a few miles away were searching for a dog that fit the description. She couldn't remember their name, just the address. So I went in and did a reverse look up on the computer to get their phone number. By then, Hubby was home, so he called the number, and gave the people directions to our house. The lady came by and picked up her dog. We were all shocked how the dog walked so many miles across the busy traffic, and into our yard.

If the bunny shows up again I might be able to catch him, and then try to find the owner. I have a humane trap that I can bait and catch him, without harm. It's just a cage with a trap door; they can get in but they can't get out. I use it sometimes for relocating squirrels. In the past, I've also caught raccoons and possums in my yard (I let them go; I wasn't trying to catch them; they just got curious).

I hope we can catch him before a dog or car gets him.

Awwwwwwwwwwww cute rabbit. I hope you can catch the rabbit and find the owner.

I have rescued the animals in the past and it does feel good to do something good to the animals.

The bunny has stayed in our yard all day. Even when we were working in the yard, the bunny stayed close by. He let Hubby scratch his ears. :)

It was getting dark out, and I went to check on the bunny. He was sitting in the middle of the yard. I was afraid that he might get nervous as I approached him in the semi-darkness. He got up and ran toward me! It's like he was glad to see me.

I hope we can find his family soon. It's obvious that he must have a loving family because he's so comfortable around people. It's harder to track down the owners of a bunny. Bunnies don't wear license tags. Tomorrow we're going to call some more places.

What a cute rabbit. Hope you will keep him if you can't find his owner. Maybe a nice rabbit play pen for himin the backyard!

cute bunny. it DOES look like a domesticated bunny instead of a wild one. Hope you're able to find its owners soon!

Update.

We still haven't found the bunny's family. I think we'll have to put up some signs around the neighborhood.

He got out a few times, then a few hours later, he'd come back. Whenever we go in the back yard, he runs up to greet us. He's not afraid of people. Our family and friends all come over to visit him. He eats from our hands, and he let me pick him up and hold him like a baby.

Awww..... Yeah its pet and not wild! Maybe you adopting him.:):):)

I wouldn't mind except I'm sure he has a loving family somewhere that is broken-hearted because they can't find him.

Yea, that is a cute bunny and so sweet of you to be concerned for the bunny's welfare. :)

We put out some signs at the neighborhood entrances for "Found Bunny" with our phone number but no response yet. We also drove around the next neighborhood to see if anyone had "Lost Bunny" signs up. Nothing.

Then Guess you re going keep a bunny because I knew its will not survive.
:):):)

The bunny's family came for him today. I'm happy for them, but sad for me and my family. We enjoyed having him around.

The grandpa saw our sign and called us. He told us the bunny's name is Thumper, and belongs to his grandkids. So, they came and picked him up.

I'll miss him. :(
