Liberal BBC says the wrong thing in article headline

That is why the BBC have has anti-American bias for a long while so that is why I am not surprised by their stupid headline.

Man, and it came from a liberal news media, too.

Nothing to see. Move on.

But had it been a Conservative news media in the U.S. with that headline....first word that'll come out of people's mouths is "Raacisssssssssssttt!" And go into an apoplectic fit at the grand mal seizure level. Oh, and Sharpton would lead a new rally, too.

They made a stereotype...

Whew! My hubby can swim. So THRILLED!

Well, it's an accurate observation. About 60% of blacks can't swim. It's not a stereotype. I think the lack of access to a pool is the reason for that.

But I do think racism play a role. I remember when I was a child, there was a black girl struggling to swim at a public pool. She screamed for help. The white lifeguard there completely ignored her as if he thought she's better off doing on her own. She managed to swim to the curb and walked away. I imagine it was traumatic for her.

I believe swimming should be mandatory for all public kids.

Racist is racist. Don't rags have anything better to write about nowadays?

Well, all of my kids can swim fine except my youngest. Wife and I discussed this summer while swimming that she need to take some swimming lessons so she'll be ready to swim at our favorite swim hole only 40 minutes away. My 12 year old daughter loves to swim. She even jumped off a water fall edge 14 feet up into a deep pool below. I did, too. And my oldest daughter did as well. Nothing like a good, cool swim on a hot day.

swimming

60 Minutes tv had a story about that last week. the high number of blacks who can't swim is from the racist years in the USA. back in the day black people were not allowed to swim. and that carried over to later generations . one reason parents don't teach their kids s because they themselves can't swim so are scared to see their kids swimming. i look back on my years growing up and can't remember any black families at pools i went to or even parks. things were still getting off the heavy racism from the 60's and onward.
down south where those kids drowned there is still pretty heavy racism and old attitudes. only thing to do is give the kids more opportunities to learn swimming.

splitting hair.... how come don't all deaf people write proper english? oh? just some percent of them do write properly? really? let's look up some articles on that, too... see? some don't write properly!

honestly --- much ado about nothing in THAT direction. maybe we should look at the floating standards teachers and parents have on their kids... instead of looking at this as a race thing or a lingual thing.

How many of ya'll took swimming lessons when you were young?
I did. TCS (Hubby) did too; he was on the high school swim team.

Also, we had to pass swim tests in Navy boot camp. Boots can't graduate if they can't float and swim. We were also taught drown-proofing techniques (kind of like becoming a bobbing cork in the ocean).

I didn't have swimming lesson but my family made frequent trips to pools, lakes, and beaches so it became natural to me.

You're lucky. They threw me across the lake and called me Skip.

Actually, prior to swimming lessons, Hubby's dad took him to the end of the dock at the lake and threw him in. It was rather unexpected and shocking (he was just a little boy then) but he did learn how to swim.
