They made a stereotype...
Whew! My hubby can swim. So THRILLED!
Another liberal rag on the same issue:
60 percent of black children can't swim - Health - Kids and parenting - msnbc.com
How many of ya'll took swimming lessons when you were young?
I did. TCS (Hubby) did too; he was on the high school swim team. How many of ya'll took swimming lessons when you were young?

Also, we had to pass swim tests in Navy boot camp. Boots can't graduate if they can't float and swim. We were also taught drown-proofing techniques (kind of like becoming a bobbing cork in the ocean).
Actually, prior to swimming lessons, Hubby's dad took him to the end of the dock at the lake and threw him in. It was rather unexpected and shocking (he was just a little boy then) but he did learn how to swim. You're lucky. They threw me across the lake and called me Skip.
