Just your thoughts and opinion on things.

I see the point!!!!

I have the opinion that a Wiki link does not count as a substantiated source, so should be allowed as just opinion.:P

You may have a Point there.

But I would seriously like to keep this thread on an opinion based only.

The wiki link can stay since it only explains whom a person is.
:)

But please keep this thread fun with opinions only!

I'm not soley basing it on the social skills. It is only a part of it.

But do let me ask you this

What is the main reason parents home school their children?

I chose to for the lack of edcation my kids got in public school. We were in a small town and the school didn't have enough. After starting, I realized that one child was going to need a lot more than the school could do and the other just learned at too fast of a pace. While he was 9 & 10, his cousin asked him for some help on some of the AP classes in high school. Not too bad.

Cool!

I am fortunate that we have an awesome gifted program teacher in our town that works well with my child.

She is in 6th grade reading at a 10.2 level. Which at the IEP meeting they explained to me meaning as a 10th grader in their second month in school.
Sometimes, I think she is too smart for her own good
Especially when she outsmarts me. :)

How long? Have you ever attended to a public school or private school.

What are the pros and cons of homeschooling In your opinion?

I attended public school for about 4 months and we were back on the road again due to parents being medical missionairies.

The only con I can think of is not having friends from school--especially deaf schools.

Pros--too many to list. :)

That is a major asset of homeschooling. You are able to travel or move around and not be dependent on the school district or the school schedule. Just take the books with you and turn the whole trip/adventure into a learning experience.

agreed. the only drawback is that there's not enough time to form a long lasting relationship with friends.

Wow that is intense. I could never deal with 320 days of school a year.

Keep in mind, "life skills" such as cooking, you get math, reading, science and health & nutrition. Grocery shopping has math, reading, social studies and health. I count all of that. That's how we end up with 320 days of school a year.

My daughter put up the skirting on our mobile home. She had to measure, cut, insert and screw into place enough skirting for a 16X80 mobile home. She got Physical education and math.

I'm glad homeschooling did good for you :)

In my opinion, some cable news channels repeat the same stories over and over again.

If you get involved with homeschooling coop groups, the kids remain friends for a long time and will write back and forth and arrange vacations together alot. We went to Six Flags with a homeschool group from Central Missouri that also had a lot of people from all over the state and into Illinois.

Totally - that is VERY irritating. I also get sick of the short seasons for network shows.

ah very cool! :cool2:

Interesting about homeschooling. I never really have an opinion about it cuz I have never really seen nor experienced it.

i hate it when teachers of students with disabilities automatically assume there is another reason why they may not be doing well in school such as a learning disability. my opinion is that they need to fully examine why a child may be struggling. in my case, i was misdiagnosed as having a learning disability from 3rd to 12th grade because my math scores were considered "average" in 3rd grade despite the fact that i was able to successfully take algebra (in 7th grade) and geometry, trigonometry and calculus in high school. it wasn't until i was given an official test designed to rule out learning disabilities during my freshman year at university that it was determined i never had one and any premature difficulties i may have had in math were attributed to the fact that i couldn't see. this was proven by the fact that as long as i was allowed to braille an algebraic or advanced math problem, i had no problem solving it. when i think about how hard i had to fight to enter my high school's gifted program, it makes me angry. i know i shouldn't be bitter about that kind of thing after all these years, but i am and i feel sorry for students who are misdiagnosed by the "system" just because some teachers are in too much of a hurry to place a label on someone.

They do!! Oh that is why I don't watch cable TV that much. My husband sat and watched the reruns of the show "The Deadliest Catch"
It was a marathon.so it was on allday!

i don't like all day marathons either. i've had cable ever since it came out in the late 70s/early 80s and from what i can tell, 2 weeks consist of original programming while the remaining 2 weeks of the month consist of re-runs.

sooner or later.... we'll be watching the shows at OUR choosing :mad2:

i can't wait for that day to come. to some extent, that's already possible with more and more tv programs being available on the internet.
