Here is another one:

Special Education - Program & Services - Omaha Public Schools

"Program Description:
The Hearing Impaired Program serves students who are deaf or hard of hearing.* Signing Exact English (SEE II) is the communication system used for instruction and as visual support for other students.* Students participate in the general education curriculum with the support of sign language interpreters.* Students also receive enhanced vocabulary and language development instruction.* This program is provided in two elementary schools, one middle and one high school."

csign.... just stop.. before you further make a joke out of yourself.

I can name many schools here that uses ASL... MANY. just in this area. And you're pulling what? 1 in washington, 1 in Nebraska, maybe 2 in cali... See.. It's not as popular as you claim. Thanks.

And these are programs with the medical model of deafness.

I'm done with this thread. :iough:

I'm addressing the comments that "SEE isn't used anymore" and the request for the name of one school that uses SEE. I've provided links to four schools, in different states.

At no time have I ever questioned the value of ASL. I have also not spoken negatively about Deaf Culture or ASL.
In all reality, some of you are just as bad as the true Audist's out there who look down upon someone
because they use ASL or because they are Deaf. You are doing the exact thing to me, strictly because
of the fact that we used SEE in the beginning. You are mocking me, because I took a different route.
Even when I had made it clear that ASL was always a part of the master plan.
I would not, and have not ridiculed someone because they use ASL as their primary mode of
communication.
It's really quite sad that some of you are just perpetuating the hate that you may have experienced in
your life.
The reality is I don't treat people poorly, or tell people they were wrong simply because they made a different choice than me.

I guess I value this simple thing called respect, and have always made a point of being respectful of others decisions. Regardless of whether or not it was the same choice as mine.

No. You're missing the point. Drop the defensiveness shroud then you might see things better.

You've made quite an impression of trying to be the expert in the deaf world and the only thing you've proved is that you are a tryhard.

That SEE thread.... The "trying to prove jillio wrong" game.... among few other things. The sense of superiority that you try to exude is not quite pleasant.

And the fact you are fully aware that SEE is not a language and then go and defend it to the end is akin to knowing that punching a kid for punishment is not okay and still doing it because it gets the results YOU want, at the kid's expense.

When you post these things defending YOUR point of view the more of a joke you appear to be.

The things I've seen in this thread and continue to see in other threads mocking SEE and such is disgusting. I don't agree with CSign's choice, but it wasn't MY call to make. It was hers and hers alone. I accept that, and, have shut my mouth and fingers about it.

Just because most of you find SEE cumbersome and don't like it, doesn't mean you have to mock someone who has used it. Come off your high horses and just accept that she took a different path. Also, if you don't like what she posts, simply put her on ignore. It really is that simple. Those of you mocking her certainly have proven how venomous some in the Deaf culture can be, and if I didn't know some really cool people outside this forum, I would have been really turned off.

But, I'm hearing so what do I know, right?

Whatever.

For these who don't know... my own rule for forum etiquette is to IMMEDIATELY delete a thread when I am found wrong. Usually when I have a thread deleted, I post a thanks/sorry at the end for being misinformed or stating the wrong information.

THIS PREVENTS FURTHER MISINFORMATION.

Now, we all can wonder where the horse thread went... :hmm:

Would you appreciate it if some person who was able to walk came into a wheelchair forum telling people that since they didn't need legs, why not amputate? and they bring in all sorts of reasons that appears good to amputate...

That would cause an uproar? Then that person says "Nothing I have posted is incorrect"... What would you do?

I do have to admit. The mocking has gone too far. In this thread and some others. I am stepping down and will not participate in anymore of this nonsense.

It is not about her choosing SEE with her child. It is about her claims that SEE is a language which is very misleading.

I dont see where she was mocked but I must have missed it.

I, for one, wont sit back and let people spread inaccurate information about sign language. If someone thinks it is ok to take ASL and mess around with it and then say it is a language, I will speak up against that person.

So, that gives people the right to mock and degrade her (and the choice she made)?

No, Shel. It doesn't. Simply correct what you see as an error and move on. People are forgetting one simple thing. This is a FORUM. People come and go. People also are going to make choices irrespective of the information they get on here. Some might follow the advise to learn ASL, but not everyone will.

It's just how life is. As I said, you don't like what she posts, ignore her (or me, or whoever). No need for all this crap we're seeing. It's completely uncalled for and I'm surprised as HELL that a mod hasn't locked this thread by now and banned people. THAT should have happened about 3 nights ago.

wow... I am beginning to think that deaf people see things completely different than hearing people...

To the point hearies are "simple thinkers"

She has made a few uncalled judgements on us about our views. Why is she not being held responsible for her comments as well?

Is there any website or pic that shows the ASL pendulum? The pendulum shows sign methods that umbrella sign modes (not a language) as SEE1 SEE2 and PSE. It's all pretty basic IF you are or completed an Interpreter Training Program to understand these other modes of manual communication.

You know what? That just makes some on here look like bitter, angry people. Most of us (myself included) have had a lousy upbringing. But, do you see me on here taking my upbringing out on someone? No.

So, what gives people the right to do that on here? What I'm talking about common decency, Shel.

Sure, CSign may have been wrong in your eyes. I'm not saying that. But, what I AM saying is does that give people the right to degrade her? In my view, it doesn't. Respect goes two ways. If you want it, give it. If someone doesn't want to do that, that's on them, but that doesn't give people the right to degrade someone; especially when we have this really cool feature on here called an ignore button. We also have another really cool feature on here called a "report post" button. Instead of all this name calling and bashing, I suggest using report and ignore.

That goes for everyone. The oralists and the deafies on here. This blood bath mentality needs to STOP.
