Why doesn't that surprise me?:P His brain goes "What the hell are you doing?" then switches to ASL.

carrying a pepper spray and screwdriver in your purse.... I can see how that can be misconstrued as something else especially for police officers.
 
I had this experience where my friend pissed off a dude's mother... This dude is deaf, and his mother is a full blown SEE user...

She came out of the house FUMING signing in full blast SEE and this was after me not seeing SEE in a decade... I calmly, after she was done signing and was breathing hard, said.. "i did not even understand you at all..." That blew her lid. Ah well.
THen.... someone had to intervene and let her know that I was an ASL user. But I "brought my SEE file out" and was able to communicate.

(for these who were wondering... I basically told her tough luck.)

Embrace the unity of all choices but ASL must be lovely idea!

Yeah, sounds about right. I just think it is strange when people think sign languages are not necessary. Let me ask something... WHAT about hearing people with poor speech skills or have their vocal cord issues or, maybe choose to be "mute"? Are they allowed to sign? Or... will they still have to speak only?? Well, if they are allowed to, wouldn't you love double standards? Well, I don't understand this thinking...

If you think sign language is nothing more than something "used by the deaf and dumb and by savages" like primitive apes, whatever. Nobody can remove sign languages off of our world when something goes wrong.

Yeah she wasn't a fan of my friend telling her son that he would pummel his ass into the ground if he ever took one of my stuff.

I told her... "Your son seems to be a big boy?" she didn't like that either. For some reason the discussion ended right there. :dunno:

Absolutely. Empathy must be insisted upon.
