Does the Geneva Convention apply to the Iraqi Army? Did their prisoner have any kind of protection afforded by the Geneva Convention?

The answer is "no" because their prisoner was an unlawful combatant. He was wearing the uniform of an Iraqi soldier - his enemy. Those are very item specific conditions that the Geneva Convention addresses. It even addresses those very same things in U.S. Law as well.
