Is worth your friend can pick up or drop off at the airport or not?

Yea, same here but sometimes there is a limit. I am going to drop a friend off at the airport next week and then 4 more friends asked me if I could do the same. I dont mind but gas???

Should I ask them for gas money? Is that rude...Angel or anyone can give me advice cuz I am not sure what to do but F***cking gas is costing me an average of $70 to fill up.

I think people are looking to me cuz my house is like 5 mins from BWI.

It's not rude to request that they come up with some gas money. In fact, if they are asking you for a ride to the airport, they should have offered, rather than putting you in the position of asking. When you ask a friend to do a favor that takes up their time, and costs them money too, the polite thing to do is offer to help with the cost.

Well. I don't drive. In my hometown. Deaf people asked me to pay them for gas if I am ride with them. I have to deal with it. I gave them 5 to 10 dollars for gas for once time. I don't want to ride with them all the times. You have to discuss with someone about the gas. Someone can give you 5 dollar. It will good enough instead of taxi or cab. Or someone have no patient to wait on bus or train go to Airport International. I know I hate the gas price right now. I wish it's cheap like before.

How many miles away between your hometown and airport? If your answer is long way.

I do not consider it as a rude if you ask your friends for their kindly support to your gas expenses because everyone knows how much gas cost if your friends live same hometown or next hometown as you. If they disagree or think something negative then suggest them to take a taxi.

I don´t ask my guests for support to my gas when they stay with us for holiday as the same as they don´t ask me for support their gas when I stay with them for holiday. Yes, I negioated with them via mails and emails before I visit them for holiday because I want to support their wish with respect. I will respect with no problem if they want my support for their gas.

The airport is about 5 to 7 miles away from my home.

Back when gas was cheap, I wouldnt give it a second thought about driving my friends to the airport but with everything going up, I am constantly thinking of ways not to waste gas cuz I cant afford to pay $70 more than once a week. Paying $70 a week is bad enough!

Yeah. I have one friend in Rochester that I always pick up from the airport. He always picks me up too.

Here in Texas, I have a friend that does the same as I do the same. :)

Those are my true friends. :)

It's exactly how and what my friends and I did the same thing with no complication.

Yes, it's understandable over gas expenses. Only true friends who are open minded and understand about gas expenses and will be happy to support you with gas money.

You will know that they are not your true friend IF they feel being "offend" or negative your offer for support you with gas money and then offer your friendly suggestion to them to take a taxi.

I want to say that you did right thing to ask her/him for support to gas money if he/she want you to take him/her to airport. It's not rude to ask them because it's your car, you pay gas for it.

If you can't ride to airport from your friends then take taxi or bus :dunno2:

With today gas price, no I don't think it's rude to ask but it's rude for them not to offer you any gas money..

The only time I ask for gas money is when we go on a road trip among friends, then we split the cost of gas but for picking them up at the airport or bus station, I don't ask for any because they're my closest friends...

Yes, that's right.

Yes, my friends & I made our outing trip together in one car. We shared the cost of gas.

If my friend pick me up or drop me off, i would do same for my friend.

IAD (Dulles) ... use metro from Gallaudet/NY Ave to Vienna/Fairfax Station ($4.50) and there is a bus (cost $5) will take you to IAD (Dulles) total $ 9.50

BWI .. use metro from Gallaudet Univ/NY Ave to Union Station, take MARC to BWI Airport (trip will cost you about $10) Or use metro from Gallaudet Univ/NY to Green Belt then take free shuttle to BWI.

DCA .. use metro from Gallaudet Univ/ NY Ave to National Reagan Airport (DCA) (cost $3.50)

I know Dulles (IAD), BWI Airports usually sell cheaper tickets compares to DCA ... but I use DCA all the times. :)

Added Red as another option to go to BWI for less. Not only Marc but budgetwise if needed.

I never asked my friends to take me to airport. I always rely on local transportation services to go to all IAD, BWI, and DCA. I have never had a problem getting to any of them. There are too many people to take care at same time. All fly out same time, or fly in same time. Most of them are busy in last minute and cannot help out. Cleaning up dorms or moving into dorm, packing suitcase etc..

My idea is that you need to ask Gallaudet about transportation need. No need taxi or train. You can ask transportation which one is cheaper for transportation will pick you up.

Interesting, here in Germany - we support each other a lot. What friends for?

Example: My friends helped us to doing our house and garden as the same as I helped them to restore their old things.... crafts, house, sick, ride a car together, etc. etc. etc. We welcome them from Austria or Italy to stay overnight at us before go back to North Germany... Like what I said before, what friends for?

Hi Liebling,

to me the same thing. I do support them, If they come from Italy to home at the Airport by Stuttgart. I will pick up them at the Train station Heilbronn. If the Train closed, then I can drive to Airport. No plm!!! I am not ask them for gas. If we will together carpool from Heilbronn to Pfalz "winetasting deaf Party", then we may help for gas or equal spent a diner etc... that is fine for me.

BUT, i have a big problem, we will fly to NYC sooner. My friend Mary was living in Brooklyn, so she moved to Mettich Beach last week. I was like shock. She can't pick up us at JFK Airport, because she don't have a car. We also can't afford to stay the Hotel in Manhattan for one weeks. It is fuck expensive. I am very sad and just don't know, what i do?? *sniiiiiiiif* :(

Yes it's true. I drive and pick friends up from airport or whatever and then they treat me for invite me to go to resturant with them. If we made a long outing trip together in one car then share the gas money... I have friends who come from Italy or Austria for holiday then stop at us for overnight before go back to their home in North Germany. It's better than stay at Hotel for a night or overtired after long journey from Italy to North Germany. They stopped at us because I live not far from Italy, France, Switerzland, etc. My friends from North Germany drove to stay with us before make their trips to Italy, Switerzland, Austria, etc. If I want to visit Holland (Netherland), island of sylt, Berlin, North Sea, East Sea, Denmark or Sweden then stay my friend's house in North Germany overnight or few days before travel to there for week or whatever then back to friend's house for few days then go back home to Bavaria, South Germany.

Oh my dear... :( Your friend Mary didn't tell you before about her move plan until last week ? Are you suppose to stay with her in NYC for holiday that's what you both plan for long months? If yes, she let you down... I know how you feel when I were in your shoes. :(

Do they have Motels or Bed & Breakfast in Manhattan? If yes, they are cheap to rent than stay in Hotel. Why can't you try to look at internet either they do have motel or Bed & Breakfast there in Manhatten or ask ADers who know which cheap motels?

If there're no motel or bed&breakfast in Manhatten... then you have choice either you can cancel your flight ticket to aviod to pay hotel expenses or continue to go and look somewhere to stay... I hope some ADers will help you when they read your post here.

All what I want is  you.

But my friend Peggy (you know her) will come there too. I gave her promise, that we wont sleep over night at the Hotel. we love to visit in our friends home, it is true life style home than Hotel. But Mary is moving out of Brooklyn to Meetich Beach *waaaah*
thanks for help

P.S. I miss you already *sniiif*

Well, Authnetic made an excellent and informative post about the transportation to BWI, DCA and Dulles airports from Gally earlier in this thread because they are more cheaper than taxi.

Asking friends for a ride to airport is another good option as long as you can return a favor to them.

They do not use their own transportation to drop off and pick up students at the airport. Students are responsible to use their choice of transportation.

I told you that I'm freshman start on August 20. Yes, you have to ask Gallaudet can help you and ride need. Easy for you ask direction or counselor can help your solve you need. Remember don't worry about your problem. God guide and help you. :)

exactly the point. Good one, Jillio. It's not that I don't want to help, Liebling. If they are my friends - they are usually very CONSIDERATE. No such thing as free bread. I usually never accept monetary compensation - ONLY FOOD! :cool2: I have done many favors for them and they have done many for me as well. Newark Airport is pretty close to me - about 20 min drive but I have to pay for tolls a few times (i think 3-4x total) and gas expense. I have driven for my friends there a few times. They are aware of expense but it's certainly lot cheaper than getting a tax. They repay favor by driving me to airport other time, bought me movie ticket or dinner, etc.
