I'm as dumbfounded as puggy

Yep! "Teba" was the best he ever did with that one!:P

I find it ironic that a foreigner is teaching a US-born child how to speak English. Sorry. just something I noticed.

I once had to go to Social Security office for something and the lady at the window had this looooooong last name. I asked her how to pronounce it and she said it and I couldn't wrap my tongue around it. She giggled and said most people can't and that the name is Middle Eastern. Her husband was from Yemen or some place like that.

My son's 1st speech therapist was Indian. Her name was Prateeba Srinvansin. I figured if we could ever get him to the point that he could say her name, we'd have it made.

I don't even want to think about pronouncing my doctor's first name. Her last name is pronounced something like Colin without the n. Guess where she comes from?

 That's hilarious now that I think about it.

No clue. So it's pronounced like Koh-l-ee?

Yeah, when it was put that way it was kind of funny. But since we were living in TN at the time, there was a choice of an Indian accent or a very heavy Southern drawl. I found the slight Indian accent much easier to understand.:giggle:

I'd pick Southen anytime.

India was once ruled by England, ya know... so they do know English

What is the point of this article; to point out that Democrats will sink to new lows looking for anything negative about Republicans, or that there is a woman of Indian descent in the Republican party? After all, Republicans will do the same thing; finding anything, no matter how trivial, to paint Democrats in a negative way; and there are certainly women of Indian descent on the Democrat side.

Why can't we simply accept that both parties are flawed because they contain humans? Humans fail to stay honest when there is big money floating around, they fail to keep their pants on when sexual opportunity presents itself, and they fail to speak truthfully when they might gain advantages by not doing so. Do we all need to be convinced that one party is somehow more moral/honest/faithful than another? Really?

Actually, this woman had been in the States for some time, and in England prior to that. She did not have much of an accent at all. Her speech was very melodic, and her grammar was impecible.

Wasn't Queen Victoria the Empress of India?

Similar to my doctor's accent. However, I've met Indians with accents so thick that I could barely understand them. I'd pick an accent i know well cuz it's easier or me to understand it.

Oh, I agree. I have heard some immigrants with such a heavy accent that I have difficulty understanding. One of them was Irish!:giggle:

Whats sad is that I have some difficulty with speech that one of my teachers told me I sounded like I had rocks in my mouth.

But then again this is the same teacher that thought she had musical 'talent' as music director of our church for a long time before she was forced out when we hired a full time music minister. She was sang HORRRIBLY off key!

My mother tol me that my big siste's first sentence was "Mama, please don't sing." She's always off key.

My big siste is a music teache now.

Sounds to me like she had an ear for music from the get-go.
