is is dis rude or disrespectful in the deaf culture?

Yeah... because you Aussies have to follow the British, who only decided to change things to become more French. :eek3:

At least Canadian English still stuck with its loyalist roots. :)

:laugh2:

You know when you're in the middle of saying something, then you realise - 'oops - shouldn't have said that' - somehow you stop or steer into another direction. The same goes to signing.

Is it disrespectful when you don't finish off what you really was going to say (sign) to the deaf person. Would they take it, the wrong way? (in a way of looking down or discriminating them)?

So she was actually asking if you should try to be tactful in sign language?

I did not understand that at all.

I know and I understood you, but I thought the OP said something different from what she did.

Souggy, that was great!

The fact of the matter is, aren't today's young people learning spelling skills? I have a daughter who can't spell worth a darn, but she has learning problems, and not because she wasn't taught. We still go over the spelling rules (I home school my kids) and she still has problems. She also never learned to read until she was 10. It was the Closed Captioning on the TV that opened that door for her.

I would hope that Pink-studs has the intellect that means she really can spell and she's just "stuck" on Text Message shorthand. I don't think AD is the place for that shorthand for a full message.

thanks for dunderstanding kristina... i am "stuck" on those text messagin shorthand, thanks for letting me know i will try to lay off iton AD, sorry bout dat as i am used to making calls more then txt but now i have to depend on texting

:laugh2: sorry everyone for the terrible typing and use of shorthand spellings....and annoying anyone

reading the thread again i realised my typing is sooo bad.... thanks for fixing me up and telling me im wrong hahaahaha

been away from AD the past few days coz i was hospitalised, and i had a room where i couldnt get reception on my BB or for the net so couldnt go online.

a new question: would deaf peole get insulted if u tab them to move out of the way(in a friendly way)
scenario: i was waiting in line at the emergency for my discharge medicine this morning, i think the woman in front of me is probably deaf or HOH because she was standing in front of the doorway and the deliveryman carrying a few boxes ask her to move out of the way so he can get thru the door but she just stood there, it looks like he got angry. I was standing behind and saw what was happening so i though she is deaf and on impulse i smiled n signed please move. She did but she gave me and the man a death look. What did i do wrong?

Do you have limits on text? I have a data plan with unlimited text. Hence no reason to cut words down all letters free as many as you want.

First, compliments, this is far easier to read.

I think you did nothing wrong, and she was probably feeling unwell and angry about the wait.

You didn't do anthing wrong - they need to be MORE aware about peope's surroundings

i thought she was just weird... maybe naturally an angry kinda person??? she was next in line anyway and it wasnt that long of a wait.
isnt a deaf person more aware of their and others surrounding? like Jclarke stated... i know i am since becoming deaf
