I love how Jane Austen reveals her characters from their conversations. JK Rowling does the same thing. I feel like the people are real and that I know them. Every single character has a back story.
True, but where you learn is where you learn. I find it interesting that Danielle Steel has rewritten Dickens -- More than once.
And it was a Rex Stout novel where I realized everyone Archie Goodwin interviewed had a problem -- And it was not always him. It could just as easily be a woman who was trying to hang her clothes on washday and he was interrupting.
At one time I kept every book that ever influenced me in any way. There got to be so many of them there was no room for me. I had to get rid of them or move out.
So I moved.
