Anyone suffers from IBS so feel free to share about your stories.

I was diagnosed with IBS after 2 years of GI problems and my symptoms are mostly diarrhea, discomfort and gas at most days, even rarely, it had good days or weeks. I just able to keep some symptoms under control by taking probiotic everyday to prevent any tummy pain and reduce numbers of diarrhea but still discomfort, not bad as without probiotic. I had colonoscopy at 3 times in my life, last one was in July 2011 and the result is all normal. I don't take Imodium on daily basis because they cause cramping but it does keep diarrhea under control, I usually take it when I'm on important event, especially long trip. Some foods make me feel better like banana and toasted white bread, however I have to eat regular diet to support nutrient in my body.

I had many IBS attacks when I was student at Gallaudet and it was horrible experience. The food at cafeteria doesn't meet my needs but make diarrhea and gas so worse, even special diet had very little benefits. That leading to my decision to withdraw from Gallaudet after finished 1st semester and not return for 2nd semester. I am going transfer to other university that is commute from my home and I feel much better when I'm at home with my family.

I am trying different probiotic if I get better result from them.

Life with IBS isn't pleasant at all. :(

EAt bran-based muffins or buns...lighty microwaved/then toasted (LIGHTLY) and spread your fav butter/spread and EAT

your shit returns to normal in less than a week, even 2 days, (it did me 1 hour)
just a freindly advice

or eat cereal , bran-based...
bowl trouble is not fun, grumbling tummy the fartings and all. Loose, farting, not proper solidfied stools, you need to go and eat more and MORE Bran, nothing else, its FIBRES that you neeeded!!

good luck (hope im right on this one)
it no fun i know, but again good luck

if too LAZY just buy muffins (ask if it got lots bran) and eat 1 or 2 each day (mornings), better 2-3 so you really consolidate and gets your tummy working right fibres is like vitamins for your tummy...

You need your poor gut healed. It sounds like you're IBS-D?

You have to self-experiment your diet to see which food works for you. Every gut is unique and has a mind of its own. It appears that probiotic works for you, which is good. Your gut needs bacteria. We all must have bacteria in our gut. I know several people who have far worse IBS/GERD who tried many different diets. I drink kefir daily, because it contains far more probiotics than greek yogurt.

There are several things you have to try- rice, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. It seems many people with IBS can't tolerate insoluble fiber foods well. You can't have broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kidney beans, and wheat. Banana works for you because banana is soluble fiber. Try to increase your soluble fiber intake. Be careful with apple. It contains both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. The skin itself is insoluble fiber, so remove it. Try to eat small amount of apple itself to see if your gut is ok with it. You see, Italian and French chefs always peel skins from the fruits before cooking them. My mom from Europe always peels skins before eating. In general Asian culture, they always ferment everything traditionally, so they consume plenty of cabbage. In Baltic sea countries, and Germany, they ferment cabbage. We do not ferment cabbage traditionally here in US. That's why many people here can't tolerate cabbage. Fermenting cabbage is tricky. Go to local Asian restaurants where they make bone broth traditionally. Bone broth is really good for your gut.

Like I said again- you have to get to know your gut well. Research. It takes time to heal your gut.

My own IBS tends to alternate between diarrhea and constipation. Right now I'm in the diarrhea stage. Diarrhea is mild though. (so far) I've had worse. When it's bad, I eat rice, applesauce and yogurt. I have apple sauce stocked for bad diarrhea. Bananas are also good for diarrhea but I avoid them because they have high levels of latex and I don't want to end up very sick. I have a latex allergy.. skin contact will cause hives and indigestion will make me very sick to the stomach. Lacoste intolerance can also cause diarrhea.

When I am consipated, I tend to eat food with high in both soluable and insoulable fiber and i often have prunes in my oatmeal and I will eat ww bread to keep consiptation from getting bad. It's better to eat brown instead of white rice..

Unfortunately, I have no benefits from wheat products due make diarrhea worse, but only oatmeal does help in some part so it won't make regular, just rather to be on and off over days.

Yup, it is either IBS-D or IBS-A.

It seems like guts are getting more complexes and it will take very long to get know with guts so well.

I'm thinking about switch from Align to Florastor if it will help.

Yup, same here, I usually have mild diarrhea (usually up to 3 loose/watery stools per day) and severe diarrhea is rare, especially from virus. The banana and applesauce do help so much, so is Gatorade to replace the loss of liquid.

I used to had constipated in last summer and it wasn't pleasant at all.

Of course, I have lactose intolerance since 1998 and avoid all dairy products do help, however I still have discomfort and gas when I don't eat any dairy products.

What about taking some yogurt? Like Stonyfield Farm, Brown Cow Farm, and a few names, but not Dannon and some other companies. Lowfat (diet) is no good because it contains aspartame.

Soymilk is no good. Some Silk Milk are ok. Silk PureAlmond is good. Organic Valley, Silk Milk, a milk with "USADA Organic" label on the package are good. I am not sure about the Rice milk. Avoid milk that contains rBGH.

Off record, do you ever go to your dentist for cleaning every year?

I never liked any yogurt products. :(

Yup, twice per year.

Not sure, having gas, discomfort and pain with diarrhea is more classified as IBS rather than Habba Syndrome because this syndrome doesn't have pain, just diarrhea only.

maybe so, but I think it's worth checking anyway. you never know, hmm
how about celiac? ever been tested for celiac?

Fuzzy

Oh boy. Probiotic is good. I had Pearl probiotic pills and it is just good and easy to take the pill a day. Acidophilus Pearls Probiotics - A blend of good bacteria for healthy digestion.

Some comments above are good information.

Ok, I will try this probiotic and thanks for helping.

Fuzzy

Yup, it was negative as last test in 2010.

Fuzzy, why do you persist in telling Foxrac he might have something else? His own first post says "I was diagnosed ...." Show the man some respect, will you?

I know someone who has IBS. I felt so bad for her when she told me she had to ask her boyfriend to leave early every morning so she could deal with her issues privately because it's not a quiet affair.

My sister and my mother has IBS, I'm not sure what kind though as until now I didn't even know there was different kinds. But my sister told me this.
"avoid cheese, most grains and alcohol, consume yogurt like it's the only thing left in the world."
