Internet sales tax headed for Senate vote

I hate taxes but these two quote really say it all.

"“This is a matter of equity and fairness,” said South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard, a Republican. “The same people who are selling the same products should be paying the same taxes.”"

"But supporters of the bill insist it is not a tax increase. Instead, they say, the bill merely provides states with a mechanism to enforce current taxes."

Really the headline should read "Internet sales tax enforcement"

The law will pass. Have to figure out how the various states get a cut of the taxes though. Another quadmire for irs

The current system is also annoying for the consumer. My on-line orders to Staples are shipping free (good) but I have to pay the sales tax (bad). They never figure the right amount, so I always have to go back and adjust my balance in my bank account. Sometimes twice!

Would it be IRS? The sales taxes are state and municipal revenues.

Yes, Fox Racing incorrectly calculated the sale tax that I ended up to paid 12% instead of 9% that my county charge at offline retail.

Funny, Fox Racing has no physical presence in Alabama and they will not required to charge sale tax to customers, but they chose to charge for unknown reason.

Yes, the state department of revenues and municipal will ask them to pay, not IRS.

Most of the internet stores that I bought things from are located in CA so I had to pay sales tax. I remember Amazon.com opposed it but now it's required to include sales tax in 9 states so far.

I guess some retailers are doing it voluntarily without waiting for the legislation to pass. :dunno:

It must be done for most businesses no matter how small or large if their primary income is from online sales, I think that is the case at least for CA state taxes. The consequences of skipping it involves losing $ during tax time.

Do they have a warehouse or supplier in AL? That is what I noticed about Newegg in some states like NJ. No hq or store, but a supply warehouse is there so they can charge tax.

That's wrong about overcharge tax. It's too bad there is no legislation to check if sellers are using the right tax amount.

Other one - Quiksilver - I usually shopping online have no sale tax, except for physical stores in some states, especially California.

For Fox Racing - they don't have warehouse/supplier in my state (all of their warehouses are in California) and they charge sale tax to all customers.

Yes, the supply warehouse is considered as physical presence, that why NJ and TN residents have to pay sale tax when order Newegg.

Of course, I will contact Fox Racing soon and what's up about overcharge taxes but Sony had done to me in past so I received a fat refund from overcharging tax rate.
