Interesting Rant

Seems like the old man cares about what other deaf think. That is too bad. At least the child is learning asl as a second language.

The unfortunate fact is, you cannot eductate those who refuse to be educated. There are those people int he world who prefer to live in their restricted little world of ignorance. Opening their mind and revising their attitudes requires change, and some people are simply so frightened of any kind of change that they lock themselves into their ignorance and live there for their entire lives. They are sad, sad creatures, indeed.

And some of these people's posts in that other thread shows some serious stupidity. When it comes to stupidity, there is practically no hope of them opening up their minds so why bother trying?

If someone really wants to learn, they can ask instead of assuming when they have no experience of being around Deaf people. :roll:

**nodding** The best we can do is to continue to counteract their ignorance with accurate information so that they are not permitted to spread it all over others.
 
Oh boy.....we're being discussed over there!!! Guess its my fifteen mintues of fame! :) I will prolly eventually join up there but not this summer as I'm concentrating on finishing up two degrees. I don't need another crackboard quite yet....LOL
For anyone from there who is lurking here.......SP and others DID pretty much paint us Deafies with a VERY broad brush. Subway Prophet entitled his rant "Fuck You Deaf Community"
That seems like he was ranting about a particular SPECIFIC community. Please understand.......opposition to CIs is dying down. That doesn't mean it's not out there.......just that its slowly but surely dying. Yes, anyone who is virerently anti-CI deserves a hearty "fuck you." But, that mindset is on the wane. MANY Deaf folks are OK with it....HECK MANY Deaf folks are GETTING CI! Just look at all the CI posts here alone! Yes, extremists are rotten......but ONE person's opinon of CIs does not reflect a whole community's. Heck, back when hearing aids were first introduced, MANY Deaf people were against them. Now the Deaf Community would look at you, like you had two heads if you said you were against hearing aids. It will go the same way with CIs. I can remember when almost every post at DumbNotes was anti CI. Now things have gotten a lot more moderate in the community. Which is awesome! It means people like me who are hoh (I strongly identify as culturally Deaf thou) and who have good oral abilty, will be more accepted.
I think the reason that CIs leave a bad taste in the mouths of some Deaf folks is b/c they get them mixed up with going oral only. Yet research has indicated that most CId kids DO get exposed to Sign....Yes, the debate goes on and on. It sucks that there are people out there who bash CIs. ...I myself know exactly what it feels like to be labeled as "not deaf enough" Yes, there are plenty of Deafer then thou types out there...........but there are "purist extremists" in ANY camp.
Granted 20 years ago, I am sure many Deaf people raised hell about CIs but nowadays, people who have CIs are part of the Deaf community and there is more awareness and acceptance of CIs.

Yes, in the last five to ten years alone, I've seen the Deaf Community become WAY more accepting!
 
Why waste your breath on nobodies such as them?

Simply wait for them to go deaf as they age and it'll be the moment they realize what it is like to be walking in our shoes struggling to lipread, hear and such.
 
There is so much utter ignorance and stupidity in the replies I read that it is impossible to respond. Blind ignorance is alive and well on the site.

But here's the one that gets me! And this quote is directly from Subway Prophet, who claims to have interaction with and knowledge of the Deaf community.

"Children of a Lesser God was made by hearing people, for hearing people."

Totally inacurrate. So much for his knowledge.

Oh, well. I guess ethnocentric, audist morons need a place to gather, too.

Makes me so glad that I am not in the hearing world 24/7 like I was growing up. I had to endure so many stupid comments like these growing up which made me feel like there was something wrong with me therefore destroying my self-estem. Reading this forum just reminded me how glad I am to have discovered ASL and the Deaf community. I do not need this shit on a daily basis anymore.

Again, shows more stupidity and ignorance...need I say more?
 
I suggest you, we should just let them go instead of flaming against them. I think Subway Prophet should find a good place (links, website pages, etc) for ALL deaf community that is where friendly D/deafies are around. I'm kinda of feel bad for him because I really think he's just ran into the wrong brunch of D/deafies. Gee, it's look like he hates deaf community (I hope he's not).

I respectfully disagreed what he said... I am, obviously, profoundly deaf and I love to read, write, and draw for my novel book, artworks, and short stories & poems. I have so many pictures I drew, stories I created, and much more. I'm an author/writer as well. Sure, my English and reading levels are still need to be improved and better... I met some deaf writers, deaf artists, and deaf authors, and they're amazing persons! I'm a bit of sad that many deafies don't bother to learn English writing and reading lessons. :( Dang, English writing and readng are so much fun to learn for all knowledge! :D

Subway Prophet, I'm sorry how they did treat you in a disrespect way. Yes, you are right; it's your choice for your beautiful child, not their decisions to make for yours. So, don't worry about them - Try find some places, that is where kindly D/deafies are going to, to help your needs for your child. Really, it's your decision. Please stay positive, okay? :)
 
Alexander Graham Bell did send a memo to doctors and audiologists, requesting that deaf children be sterilized. Children were sterilized with his blessing. The poster's claim that AGB did not sterilize any child while, in glaring contradiction by not sterlizing his own wife, is misguided and, obviously, denotes the man's evilness.

I'm impressed that the poster took a lot of effort (sign classes, etc.) to communicate with the daughter.

Do you see Jewish organizations supporting organizations that hold the Nazi's ideologies? No, so by supporting an organization that carries a man's name who practiced soft eugenics on deaf people, Subway Prophet is indirectly supporting the idea of oppression of deaf people, including his own daughter.

Yes, that's why I thought that we could post over there! I mean it IS good that Subway Prophet is OK with Sign.....if I recall correctly, he does SEE with his daughter.
Oh, and Subway Prophet....................It's great that you're trying to get your daughter to have oral skills.....Yes, oral skills rock. But the thing that parents and Deafie extremists don't understand is that its their job to equipt a kid with a full toolbox of options.
 
Well good news.............I'm involved in a constructive debate right now with Subway Prophet......he says he shouldn't have painted everyone he did with a broad brush. I think that although his daughter is still kind of young, he may have heard about the old days when NAD was very extremist about CIs. (I think he might be an AG Bell member, although more of a moderate one, rather then an auditory verbal extremist)
