I'm curious about all CI user.

I just wonder that all. MY HA isn't help me to hear enough. I have to practice on English Grammar and roots word. Don't make fun of me! I am not proud be deaf because deaf school is stink education! It's very long story. It was not my faulted. I have a bad experience at school. I wasn't impress with stink teachers aren't pay attention for other students during classroom. It's very long story. If I am dwell about past. It made me crying. I hope you guys are treat me well. I am going back to school this fall. I want to be improve with English. I am happy with my hearing husband is support me. He wanted me to learn English more. He don't want people to make fun of my grammar. I am very frustrate. :(

I had a lousy education too in the public schools but because I loved to read, I practically self-taught myself.

Nobody is making fun of your grammar here. Just telling you that by wearing a CI doesnt improve one's grammar. If hearing was the key to good literacy skills then why are there many hearing adults who are illiterate?

That's great you are going back to school but you can start reading during your free time if you arent already. Good luck!

Aw! you're so nice lady! I like it. I am honest with you. When I was in 1 grader. I never read the books that much. I didn't like to attention on education. I love to play and do arts. Because I can't hear anything. My mom tried to teach me how to reading for kid basic. I thought it was boring to read. I was learning about English and reading at mainstream. I got honor roll when I was in 4 grader. I did good at English and reading level 4. When I transfer to deaf school. They rejected on me and put in me in low class. Because of my mid face teeth. They thought I look like a nerd as retard. It hurt my felt. The deaf staffs and deaf teachers were rejected me. Because my parents are hearing and good parents. It was so cruel! I didn't understand why other deaf teachers and kids were rejected me. They have no heart for me! I became rebellion when I was teen. I skipped go to school many times. I wasn't happy with them. They weren't great school ever I had. It's messed up my life through education.

I have to move on my life with my great husband. I am going back to school to get a GED. I want to forget about past. My husband, my sister in the law, his mom are encourage me to get GED pass. They want me to be accomplish.

5 years now, I use the Advanced Bionics Harmony processor.

That's cool! Did you get any improve with your speech? Are you happy you can hear anything than hearing aids? Are you play a guitar?? My dad was a guitar. He had a heartbroken because I was born deaf. He really wish for me to hear his tapes on band. I really want to hear my dad's play band when I get CI.

I feel for you, I understand how difficult it is missing out on little important things that require hearing, but have a good heart, people notice that more than a deaf condition. One thing about me is that I was born hearing, but progressively lost it since contracting Scarlet Fever at 18 months of age, but since I still had residual hearing, I was able to develop my speech proficiently. I went deaf during my college years, lived deaf for a decade (challenging, but I eventually ceased signing because no one around me knew it. I taught them how to spell, then it evolved to a short hand variation. Some people even did charades which got pretty hilarious! LOL), then recently made the decision to get a CI. I just missed hearing again. I was part of a band, I play bass and it sounds awesome. :)

You can't tell me to do. That's my decide to get CI. It sound you're prejudge with CI. It's okay if you're proud to be deaf then don't need post it here. That's your problem! You have to respect my feeling. It's my decide to hear. I don't care about deaf people think about me. CI is still DEAF! I have a skill on ASL. I am ready to get CI to hear my dad's play band.

Be proud to be deaf! ;)

I had an ear infection when I was baby. I had a high fever and hearing tube fluids in my both ears. I had surgery twice time. It was my born way. I will be excit to listen the music someday when I get CI.

That was what I thought but since I dont have a CI, I felt it wasnt appropriate for me to post my opinion here but last night, it was exactly what I thought. If one wants to improve their English, read, read, read, and write, write, write. I dont have a CI and my English skills are pretty decent or so I think. :)

speech therapist to help with phonetics? will that help more with spoken english and better pronunciation. But like shel and others say, gramer is best learned when studied and practice.

I grew up with a deaf girl who excels in grammer and english and was on honor roll in a public mainstream High School in that area.

She completely deaf but went to mainstream school with me. She cannot even speak but only write and sign and we went thur jr and high school with only a notetaker and didn't get interpeter until our senior year when it finally sort of became a law in our state to provide one. I have not seen her after our 1st year college but last I heard she got a doctorate degree in English and still does not wear any hearing aids or CI or even speak.

Me on the other hand worn hearing aid all my life and can speak ok but still have problem with sssss words or short and long vowels etc sometime. My grammer isn't that all great but still ok and now I am implanted for 5 year and I still speak the same as I did long time ago in high school and my grammer is not any better either as you can see on my post I am writing here.

So therefore from what I seen and what I expereinced myself, hearing does not help your grammer or english. It the moviation or the teacher willing to spend time with the student to learn afterall the hearing childern learn it by doing lots and lots and lots of writing not by hearing it.

However hearing words does seem to help hearing childern learn to spell word more correctly compare to deaf childern from what I seeing but I still do not believe it help with their grammer or english any better. I think it up to the teacher and parents williness to educate deaf childern our language and yes I do know it take more effort and time both on deaf childern than it would on hearing childern which is why there some slackness when it come to deaf education.

That's exactly what I did. I was a total bookworm in elementary and middle school, and it helped me with my English skills big time. Any time I had free time, I always had my nose in a book!

I got my CI When I was only four years old...and I've been in Oral School since 16 months of age...so therefore I was speaking already by the time I got CI...but having CI does really help understand english...even though I can read lips just fine without CI. I had Speech Therapy most of my life...up til I graduated from High School. I still can't say Z correct way...but that's alright. I have a friend who has CI and she can't say K correct way. Not everyone is perfect in grammer.

But when people speak...they sound like "english" as you put it in...but I don't know if I hear the same way as the hearing people do...but it's natural to me by hearing them through CI and the "Voice" sounds normal to me.

CI is only way I can hear....with CI...I can't even hear with Hearing Aids...hearing aids never worked for my ears as I'm profoundly Deaf.

Most people doesn't even know I'm deaf....when they first meet me and I'm speaking to them, they don't have a slightest clue that I'm deaf. Most of the time they can't see my CI because it's covered by my hair or if I have my hair in pony tail, they assume that I'm wearing bluetooth (cell phone piece). But like later on, like when I ask them to repeat what they said or ask them to face me so I can read their lips, or my husband tells them that I'm deaf....they're shocked to hear that I'm deaf since I'm speaking so well like a "hearing" person. Thanks to my parents....:ty:

Anyways...I love having CI...I don't think I could live without it...but if I have to....I'll endure it and Preston said that he'll learn ASL so we could commucate that way...lol

I agree with you. Nobody are perfect. The letter K sound same C. It's very tough for me to say C, K, Q, and X. My husband said those are tough. I was so frustrate with the letters. I gave it up. LoL I am glad that you love CI. That's good thing! Keep it up! You're lucky to have CI since you were 4.

I'm hearing, and I just wanted to tell you that C and K have the same sound. C has two sounds, one is the K sound, the other is like S. It doesn't have it's own sound.

Exactly. That's hard for me to voice it. LoL. I can say "S" It don't have a sound.

I am waiting for my audiologist will tell me to do re-test for my hearing. If my ears both are bad. I will get CI for final decide! I don't care about what deaf people think about me. I want to be happy to hear.

I want to know about CI's brand Advance Bionic, Freedom, Bilateral and other. Which is the best?? I thought Advance Bionic's color customs are cool!

I will be appreciate for mature people to understand.

This is my thread. I am not allow Anti-CI to post here!

Three companies: Advanced Bionics, Cochlear, and Med-El.

I suggest to research each company. Go less on what others tell you. It needs to be a personal choice.

Agree with vallee, all are good and a lot of it will decide on your personal preference and comfort level.
Good luck,
Rick

No. I did research at Advance Bionic on internet. It's very interesting. I don't believe what people's opinion about CI brand. I rather to learn everyone's experience and same opinions. You know I mean? If they don't have CI then not buy their stories. I like to pick a right one for my personal. It's adult's choice for custom color and device.

The CI greatly improved my hearing and my speech. I was implanted at 17. However, my history and hard work after the CI is what made it a success for me. CI's are not magic. It took a lot of hard work and dedication, and I have a lot more work to do before I can be where I want to be. My speech recognition at my last test was 35%, and at that time, I had only been implanted for five months. I wore my CI every day, all day, day after day after day. It wasn't fun and easy at first. Now... I hate doing things without my CI.

That's been my experience so far.

Originally I wanted Advanced Bionics because of the way it looked so "cool." My doctor put his foot down and said he would not implant me with that because he didn't trust that company. I listened to everything he had to say about all three companies (he threw out Med-El immediately), and after a lot of research on all companies and on my doctor himself, I decided I trusted his professional opinion. I went with the Nucleus Freedom by Cochlear. I am happy with my choice! I have a brown outer processor that perfectly matches my dark hair. It's nice to be discreet and private about my CI. If I had to go back and change anything, I wouldn't.

All that being said, the CI is not for everyone.

I am glad for you. :) I tried to find Nucleus Freedom with color custom through internet. I couldn't find it. I am wonder if they have black, pink and all color available? I did check it out. I found a picture of Nucleus Freedom. It's look cool. It's little different from Advance Bionic.

I don't know what kind of CI will get it. I have an specialist ENT doctor in large city. I don't really want to have a bulky BTE one. I want to fit on my ear size. You know I mean?

Thank you for sharing your experience! Keep it up to have CI. I can't wait to get it. :)

Hi Pinky,

I had CI by choices, I had 3 to choose from... med el no way... didn't fit suggly over my ear, unattractive. I chose Cochlear over AB due to its comfort and more programs as i work outside all the time so i would like to have 2 settings one for outside and another for inside so i can get better clairty for both and another 2 for what ever comes. I thought AB was way cool with it's colours but i chose practiality over the colours. I will have chocolate brown to match my hair. In the box there's 8 different colour microphone covers (one of them is PINK!) I think you can get pink processor (skullchick have those i think) But it's only for mini BTE i think... best to ask Skullchick.

What ever you choose you can always paint it with pink nail varnish! :)
