if $5 for gas price, would you take a walk, bicycle, scooter, subway, bus or.......

I don't have a car at the moment. So I walk, catch bus, train or ride a mountain bike.

I would like to learn ride a motorcycle, so it is a cheaper gas for long run. I need a motorcycle license first.

I don't have any choice; if I want to continue working, I must drive the car. There are no buses, trains, subways, trolleys, are car pools available to me. I can't ride a bike or moped on the interstate highway. Also, Hubby has no choice either. He drives a fully-equipped commercial work van, and there is no substitute for that.

Get scooter that's 250cc then it's legal on US highway because of it goes over 70 mph.

Try riding on tricycle on highway while cars whizzing by at 85mph. J/K

I don't blame ya for being stuck with guzzlers. I too am stuck with two SUVs and still on payment, not even paid off yet. I don't want to trade in too cuz I don't want acclumate more debt added on the new loans if traded in for smaller car. So I'm pretty much in bind!! Drive it and swallow it. My friends were :eek3::jaw::jaw: over how much I pay for gas weekly on my Durango w/ 27 gal tank

I have no choice... I HAVE to use car to drive to work daily... If I decide to take 2 buses to workplace which mean that I have to get up by 4.00 am and will take me 2 hours time to arrive work which is stress and hassle... It takes me 20 to 25 minutes drive to work with car. I would ride a bicycle to workplace which will takes me around one hour arrive there if both boys are adult and out of school but they are teenagers... I am still responsible for them is take care of them until they leave for get school bus then drive to work... because my hubby have to leave work by 5.45 am. (His work time changed last January 2008).

The caserne where I work will move to other caserne near my hometown this year which mean that it will take me 15 to 20 minutes to ride a bicycle to work during good weather. It would takes me 5 minutes drive there during bad weather.

Same here, I must have car for drive to work because bus system in my area isn't good and waste alot of time, I'm looking for different car this year and not know what kind of car what I want.

Internet is cheaper than stores.

Newegg > Best buy
Netflix > family video

Internet won! Free shipping and beat gas price!

I asked Hubby about a scooter the other day, and he said, "No way! Do you want to get squished like a bug by a semi?"

then get deal with high gas price.

Gas price wouldn't be cheaper in anytime because of political conflict, wartime and supply/demand.

I'm getting different car with great gas economy in this fall.

What deal? I can't afford car payments, so I'll pay for gas. :)

I don't use as much gas as Hubby, so it's not so bad for me. He's really stuck.

Oh ok, does your hubby's company require him to pay gas for drive on commercial truck?

I'm in FL now, woot, gas price is cheaper than in Chicago area but still expensive, anyway.

Reba's hubby is the owner of the company.....

For those of you wanting to get motorcycles, and I see it is a trend now, please be careful, much more than you ever were with your cars. Take a motorcycle riding class. In CA, most of the businesses that offer this class more than meet DMV's criteria for getting a license; therefore, you don't have to take the DMV's exam; just pay the fee.

Back to taking the riding class....I cannot emphasize enough how important this is because all it takes is one mistake, yours or the other party's and it's liable to be "all she wrote" for the cyclist. Even after all that, you're still at a disadvantage when you get on that bike.......

Hubby owns his company, so he pays for all his gas.

Get motorcycle is great idea about get deal with expensive gas price, I'm considering get one when live in sunbelt region.

i walk and use public bus around my city

You're right...motorcycling is a skill. And it is dangerous...if you flip, there's not a barrier there to protect you from the contact of the road. And for gawd's sake, folks, wear a helmet. I saw a dude riding a HD without a helmet, and I rolled down my car window (we were waiting at the traffic light) and told him he need a helmet! Later he saw me at Target (I didn't even remember him) and he said, "Hey, you're that lady in the white Pacifica! Guess what! I got me a helmet." And then he grinned. LOL. Weird story. Off topic story...ooops. But I have to agree with Tousi on what he said. :D

I would just simply keep my P/U truck. It's paid off, and runs fine. It is counterproductive for me to trade it in for a smaller car, when I will wind up having to pay off a loan and carrying comp/collision insurance? The tradeoff in fuel savings just isn't there.

Obviously, I would take mass transist whenever possible!

I'm gonna rollerskate! I wish though... Hubby takes the commuter and train everyday so I take the car to work 3 times a week. It's 12 miles one way and I work part-time. My 4 year old daughter's school is just around the corner from my job.

In next year, we will thinking about buying the bike trailer cargo to carry groceries and etc if the gas price hits $5.00 per gallons.... Here's URL for that....

Bicycle Trailer for Landscaping and Park Maintenance

 You need a pat on your back for telling him to wear helmet. Sometime I see some kids riding motorcycle 95% naked w/ his 90% naked girlfriend. Both are just wearing swimsuit that's it, no helmet! It's crazy an dumb of them!! Both of them would "uglify" their body if they get into accident (tons of scrapes, cuts, whatever you name the injuries). I would have tell kids to wear jeans, jacket and helmet to protect themselves!!

I know motorcycle require skill to ride. Some people have ridden motorcycle before they got license such as dirt motorcycle, moped, scooter, and sometime riding around block on their brother's or father's motorcycle. I have ridden motorcycle numberous time when I was in HighSchool. I stole my brother's Honda 750-4 SS and rode around the block while my brother ran out of house half naked while I zoom past him..

Some country have lot of scooters or small motorcycles on street than cars. They're much safer than here in USA. Because of gas price are higher than here. They usually find a way to save money and sqeeze loads on motorcycle to carry it.
