you as a mechanic should know this. ask any experienced mechanics

towing = hard on transmission (both manual or auto.. doesn't matter) and frame. always.

I already knew about that and I see there is a lot auto failed more ofter than manual. It's do matter.


Frame? Oh please, I never heard of that before. ONLY happen from accident but bend itself from overload towing? Yeah right. Only people know how to location the right frame then no problem.

Where you get a info about frame issue from towing?

Again, you are not mechanic and you don't know what you talk about.

lol... again - ask any experienced mechanics about towing effect on frame :)

it's best to ask to confirm first before you correct me. it hurts less that way

For very short towing time then trannies wont get hurt but can be happen in anytime.

Frame??? Following the vehicle manufacture's towing capacity and towing instrument in an owner manual.

Unless you are a mad frame fabricator and do the heavy duty frame under the Subaru's uni-body, you are good to towing the vehicles.

Xterra can do both towing and recovery. That's why you don't see Subaru towing a trailer :)

Subaru can tow the lightly camping trailers and no trouble with automatic tranny but if you change ATF (auto transmission fluid) and filter and add auxiliary oil cooler for tranny. No worry about manual trannies.

Um yes, its hard on the transmission. It's not designed to pull a semi truck and trailer. The only way you're doing that with a manual transmission is a lot of clutch slipping. And still it is was never designed for that kind of thing.

I'd feel more comfortable pulling a semi truck and trailer with a 2-speed transfer case because you can double the lowest gearing. Much less slipping of the clutch and less strain on everything else.

Hard on the transmission what? Which Auto or manual or double clutch you talk about?

I am sure there is a lot of clutch slipping but it was short time and it won't hurt so much.

I saw a towing frame (Uhaul type) under the Subaru rear end while I inserted a sniff probe into the tailpipe for smog inspection. The towing frame looks like factory installed but I was not bother it and never thought of something.

yea - it's most likely used for bike rack or a light sport trailer but really.... towing a stuck vehicle? bbbbaaaaaaaaddddddd idea! some people install bike rack to avoid paying toll at E-Z lane to cover their rear plate from being captured by security cameras

wouldn't be surprised if Subaru got a small crack in the frame for even a quick short towing
