I Now Know the Cause of my Dizziness!

By the way, I e-mailed Lexi to ask if my total blindness will have any bearing on the balance test and am waiting to hear back from her.

Here is my e-mail to Lexi followed by her reply:

Thank you for answering my questions. Will I have any problems with the balance test since I'm totally blind or will this not have any bearing on what you are looking for?

Lisa

You're welcome. That will be taken into account with the testing. I look forward to working with you. Let me know if you want to move your appointment up sooner if you get your insurance straightened out.

I'm waiting for my sister to help with the insurance paperwork. That's the only thing I can't stand about being totally blind. I always have to wait for sighted assistance. *sigh*

A thought just occurred to me. I could contact my local deafblind center and ask an SSP to help me. I don't know if I would qualify since I have CIs, but if I explain that I have difficulty hearing on the phone and obviously can't see to complete the paperwork, they may allow me to work with one. I need to do something because my sister is dragging her feet and I'm getting *very* annoyed. :mad2:

I'm sorry about that Lisa :( I wish there was something I could do... I'd help you whevever I can!!! I'm sure your sister will get back to you as soon as she can!

Jamie

Thanks, Jamie.

I e-mailed Lexi to tell her about the fact that I experience dizziness and nausea whenever I have a migraine. She said that she will work with me on certain exercises to deal with this as well during our appointment.

Just keep us posted about your scheduled appointment. Hopefully Lexi will manage to find something sooner for you

<hug> Jamie

Jamie,

Lexi said there will be no problem scheduling me for an earlier appointment. I just have to reapply for Medicaid. Once that's done and I'm approved, I can see Lexi.

Oh yeah right... I was a little bit sleepy when I typed this earlier after waking up :giggle:

That's aweome you now know the cause of the dizziness...does that have anything to do with those electrodes you turned off? If u go see this lexi person would u turn the others back on or no? Just wondering:)

Wow!

I was dizzy for several months whenever I laid down or got up from a lying down position. So I went to see the doctor. The doc said that I may have either Meneire's disease or vertigo caused by crystals in the inner ear fluid. He didn't say specifically "benign positional vertigo" but they did the exact same test on me. Turning my head quickly, lying down quickly, and using a camera to record my eye movements. They also irrigated my ears with warm water. However, I didn't get dizzy during the test (don't you hate it when that happens?), so they never diagnosed me for anything. The doc thought that I had some sort of a head trauma that caused those crystals to go out of whack. They told me to come back in a few months if it was still going. It eventually went away after a month or two.

I believe my dizziness and nausea are caused by the high frequency electrodes that were turned off, but I also think it's due to my CI surgery since I still experience dizziness and nausea when I'm not wearing my CIs.

I said in an earlier post that I was no longer dizzy, but the truth is, I am because I have problems whenever I turn my head, turn from one side to the other in bed or go from a lying position to an upright position. I also experience dizziness and nausea whenever I have a migraine.

I do not plan to have the 6 high frequency electrodes on each CI turned back on. If my audi makes me do this, I will either find another audi or stop wearing my CIs altogether. (I don't think she would, but I'm just saying...)

Jamie and all,

I received an e-mail from my CI audi today and she would like to conduct further testing to determine the exact cause of my dizziness/nausea even though my CI surgeon is pretty certain I have BPPV. The test she will give me involves the procedure that was described in Bott's earlier post in which eye moments are observed in order to determine the cause of a person's dizziness. My appointment is scheduled for May 20th. I will be sure to keep you updated.

Best of luck to you Hear Again, I hope you can resolve this quickly, my thoughts are with you.

I have BPPV for long time. It was worse in the beginning. Now I get it just alittle bit when I go to bed. I think mine was caused by a fever I had. I am glad I don't get dizzy during the daytime anymore, especially when I am driving.

:ty: for keeping us posted... so you still got 6 weeks to wait... too bad...

<hug> Jamie
