Is it common to fry tarantula in Australia?

I am well aware that they fried tarantula in many Asia countries but Australia?

I can´t find at google to support my claim from what I saw on TV last Saturday.

I switched the TV on for want to watch Obama in Europe.. An about few minutes before Obama in Europe start... We saw the document of tarantulas and check with TV magazine where the document takes. It written in Australia. We watched how they killed and then fried tarantula... I can´t watch further and went off to kitchen... until the document ends.

Why they do that? Is it good protein or what? Asians often said that insects and spiders have high protein but I never thought about Australia...

:barf:

Dear Admin. & Mod.(s)

I thought the thread under World and Culture sub-forum because it belongs to world and culture... If it´s not right then please move my thread to correct sub-forum. :ty:

Deep-fried tarantula?!!

I have no recollection or any idea that it would be common in Australia. Not one single item in relation of a .....no, wait a minute...I just remembered something. Let me get back to you in a second.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I don't think it is possible to have it fried at all. But we do have these spiders around in Australia and one of the most posionous ones besides the top one ; funnel web spider.

yes I ate a bag of it exactly like in that pix and it's EXTREMELY DELICIOUS & CRISPY - full of proteins, zero fat. You can order a bag of it online if you want.

my poor and (already) oh-so fragile stomach is churning :giggle:

That's totally gross :D

Jamie

PS. I've seen one of those tarantulas in Australia though... I ran for my life (I have arachnophobia by all means) it was awful... I couldn't breathe for several seconds and turned all blue and almost fainted!

When I went to Africa, one of the food options they had was some sort of a worm (I forget the name, but it was big and thick). I asked the cook what did it taste like. And the guy responded "It's really juicy." I can do crunchy or even chewy worms but JUICY?! NO THANK YOU, I am not Pumbaa.

Ah yes I THINK I know what you're talking about it. It resides in dead tree especially under the bark, right? You're supposed to squeeze the juicy worm first to remove the pus/shit/piss and then..... bon apetite! :barf:

have you guys seen that British ex-Special Forces or something-like-that, mountain-climber guy on tv, eats all kinds of animal carcass stuff for supposed survival purpose on show, raw, not raw...........

The Survival Man on Discovery Channel

I know the show you're talking about on the Discovery Channel or something, right??

My gut is entirely too sensitive for that!

(Jiro and I posted about the same time-- yeah that's him!)

Wouldnt that be dangerous to eat a tarantula due to all the venom?
