Yep, that's what I said... I can hear!

My old hearing aid finally died a few months ago. After having it for 13 years, my old hearing aid finally died. I was without a hearing aid for 4 months.

Today, I went in to get fitted and now... I'm wearing a brand new digital hearing aid.

I hear so much that it's taking a little time to get used to it again.

I will be going back next week to have them re-tested since it was programed and we have to see if it needs to be adjusted or something.

:) Glad you have it back again. It sounds like you missed it for those 4 months.

:giggle: @ "I can hear!" Congratulations Vampy!

Thanks, everyone!

It was awkward all day.

When I first put on my hearing aid, the audiologist told me to be prepared as she turned it on with the computer. *click* She then asked me if I could her her. I said, "yes". She then asked if it was loud enough. I said, "I don't know. It's been 4 months since I've heard anything. So, I've forgotten what 'loud' is." She understood.

When I was done, a friend picked me up for ride out to a nature trail. When we got there, all I could hear was the sounds of my friend carrying her keys, the sounds of the birds and wind, the sound of my friend and my feet walking on the gravel, the sound of people talking yards away, it was almost overwhelming.

It will probably be a few days before I'm used to it. :)

Don't worry Vampy, you'll get used to it. It's sooooo wonderful you can hear again :) And whatever you do, don't flush the toilet.;)

I got used to sound of toilet flushing but impatient for the sound to end. eh

LOL...........I remember a few years ago when I got my new set of aids.....I was like "OMG!!!!!! I can HEAR!"
I know how exciting it is..........I'm surprised you got digitals........I thought you hated digitals.

I meant, like, can you hear clearly or..?
Yes, I can.

If it's a quiet night, I can hear the crickets chirp. I can hear the fan running from my computer tower. If a car drives by outside and the window is open, I can hear it.

Ah cool. Usually when I hear stuff, it's all white noise. *shrugs*
If you're referring to the weird electronic noise, it's probably cuz your hearing aid was in 'T' mode.

The old hearing aid I had for over 13 years had a small glitch. Originally, it has a volume control, a power switch, and a switch that alternates between 'M' mode, 'T' mode, and 'MT' mode. (M being microphone, normal; T being telephone, picks up electronic signals)

The first 5 years, it worked perfectly fine. As the years went by, the volume control would mess up a bit. Before, it was a smooth control like 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9. Later, it wasn't smooth like 1...4...7...9. Yep, it didn't just increase. It would be on level 1. When I turn it up, there's no sound, then it's level 4 then no sound then level 7. Not smooth, eh?

The last few years were messed up. The 'T' mode no longer worked. Sometimes, it would randomly switch to 'MT' mode without me knowing and I would pick up electronic signals from security systems or nearby cell phones. Ugh!
