I've never heard of the American South referred to as "the Southside." "Side" usually refers to a location within a city. No, Jillio's post refer as southern states.

I'm glad to hear that.He moved out to the country and evenutally changed his mind. Nothing tragic happened to him.
That's the problem. There are other "back door" ways to restrict gun ownership or practical use.
Some tricks they've tried are marking the ammo, increasing sales taxes and fees, making citizens jump thru hoops for registration, delaying registration approvals, gun locks, etc.
I saw one peice of legislation that attempted to force anyone who owned a gun to take out a million dollar insurance policy.
more and more wins for pro-gunners -
Iowa Democratic Governor Chet Culver has signed the gun law which changes its status from "may-issue" to "shall-issue" This legislation bill passed the House and Senate by a huge landslide. 81-16 at House level and 44-4 at Senate level.
Newark, OH city council is now allowing guns in city parks.
In Texas - the students were forbidden from wearing empty holsters on campus. The federal judge has stepped in and struck it down as unconstitutional - a violation of Amendment 1.
In Utah - CCW is allowed in all public universities since 2006. Since then - there has not been a single case of misfire, accidental shooting (discharge) or any firearm-related incidents.
In Colorado - Colorado State University has allowed CCW since 2003. Since then - the school crime rate steadily dropped including sexual assaults. To this date... compared to 5 years ago - its crime rate dropped by 61%. Sadly enough - University of Colorado (different school in same state)'s crime rate is up 37% to this date and this is the university that banned guns.
Lately - John McCain (R-Ariz), Jon Tester (D-Mont), and Mark Souder (R-Ind) are introducing "Second Amendment Enforcement Act" (S. 2365 and H.R. 5162) which would eliminate several DC's most restrictive gun laws.
What's next is..... targeting NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's and NJ Governor Chris Christie's ultra-extreme anti-gun agendas - H.R. 2324 and S. 843 which would require instant background checks on private sales of firearms at gun shows. Some of its contents would drive gun shows out of business.

Sounds like it's liability-related. I don't think it should be imposed upon any gun owners though. However, if you shoot someone and gets sued for it, you're pretty much screwed if you don't have insurance. The odds of that are probably far less in comparison to auto-related collisions.
We are required by law to carry auto insurance, it's so that you won't lose your house over a car collision. However, driving is a privilege, not a right. Bearing arms is a right, not a privilege.
Tell that to felons convicted of non-violent crimes.
There are several Georgia Sheriff's and attorneys trying to overturn those types of restrictions in my State. I.E. they are arguing that a marijuana possession charge should not bar you from owning a gun.

what do you think about that?
Southside of Chicago--I don't think they're Confederates.
It's the same with voting rights. One shouldn't lose the rights to vote, no matter what the person was convicted of.
