I have had one-- with Bengay, when I applied it to my bad back, made me feel like I was being burned alive. Haven't used it since, needless to say.

What about you?

You only need to use a little Bengay at a time how much did you put on?
Have you tried getting a heating pad you can put in the microwave to use on your back? But you need to be careful and not made it too hot , I use this instead on my arthritis . It does not made my clothes are greasy and my dog might what to taste it and it bad for dogs. I only take OTC med when my head hurt .

The correct amount was applied. The problem was, my bad back didn't want anything to do with it, and it hurt like #!?@, and I will never use it again, because that stuff and I don't get along.

Yup. There are some OTC meds I can't take because of the high dosage of my meds. Benadryl is one of them. Aleve is another. Anything but ibprofeun and Tylenol I cannot take.

All of drugs, OTC, Legal or illegal drugs all have their own side effects. It does not affect everybody the same way.

that's what bengay is supposed to do. it burns for a few min and then it will subside and start to feel cool. that's not a side effect.

Not in my case-- it took 20 minutes and on my knees for it to subside. Something in that tube isn't for me.

20 minutes sounds right, and that is what it was intended to. Heat the muscle to relax, then cool down to help ease the pain.

If I had cuts, I would put rubbing alcohol on my cut (Depends on how bad). It burns like hell but it helps prevent infections.

yea what DHB said. it varies for anybody. depending on where you rubbed it and how much you squeezed out of tube.

perhaps you should use a small amount and apply it liberally.

you should use hydrogen peroxide instead

Except that my muscles DIDN'T relax-- they tightened up, and my back felt like it was on fire. That's not what it's supposed to do.

You weren't there when it happened. My old group home staff witnessed the entire thing, and now my staff know I'm not supposed to use it.

Try that intensified by 10. Yeah, that bad.

I think you have a very low tolerance for pain.... I'm guessing a simple paper cut for you must have felt painful x 10....

Think again. I have high tolerance for pain, and like I said-- you didn't see what happened. Plain and simple, the stuff and I do not get along. In fact, my ribcage/back area was in a great deal of pain, and I did not go to the ER-- instead, I figured out what was causing the intense pain, and since then, the pain had reduced to almost nothing now-- just residual soreness, that's all.

Jiro no sense in arguing with him.. if that's what he wants to think...

I agree 20 minutes is about what it takes to start to take effect. My guess is there was something ELSE going on with your back if Bengay did not help it. The sensation you felt IS what it's supposed to do.

Besides- bengay is NOT a medication- more of an ointment.

99% of the population- at least in the US, Canad and Europe have had one experience or another with OTC drugs, etc.

I used to not be able to take some stuff allergy related- the ones with D (Allegra D etc) because of the glaucoma meds. Can now that I am no longer on those meds. Can't recall any adverse side effects but like what was mentioned above- One item can have multiple effects on multiple people.

Oh.. and the the fact you were on your knees with the bengay causing pain-- that's not high tolerance to pain... that's low to middling.

Cannot take any OTC or prescription meds. I do take acetaminophen, but cannot take more than 2-3 doses a week and have to drink tons of water when I do.

Last time I had aspirin, I was in a 3 day coma.

The OP may have sensitive skin , I know people that very sensitive skin and they have to very careful with what they kind of laundry soap they use. And some meds made your skin sensitive too. I like using the heating pad , it's more natural to me.

Correct. I do, in fact, have sensitive skin, as a side effect of Risperdal.
