Dangers About Energy Saving Light Bulbs | eHow.com

I heard on the news by the years 2014 everyone will have to use energy saving light bulbs. And I also read that the bulbs have mercury in them! So we'll save money but be exposing our family to mercury if we drop an energy efficient light bulb on the floor!

Well you better not have slippery hands..... of how about we just go back to the good ole days and just use candles, oh wait they produce soot in the air and stain walls or maybe someone will find away how that is killing us to...:D

I have that in every socket in my house. I know about the mercury. However one light bulb has 1/100ths of the amount of these old thermometers.

The soot is from Lead.

I heard them called curly fries light bulbs.

I stopped using them after one burst on my floor, and after I'd heard of the poison in them.

Yes, we use them but not in all of the sockets. Yes, they can be kinda dangerous if you drop and break them. I remember dropping a tube flourscent and it made a loud bang when you break it.

Have they finally come out with compact fluorescent bulbs that can be used with three-way lights, timers, dimmers, and motion detectors? That's what I need.

Yes, I've seen dimmers, timers and 3-ways (I have this one in my lamp now).

Actually soot is carbon residue, not lead.

OH see now the Doc has a new one, the candles are increasing our carbon foot print we leave on the earth and the more we increase carbon dioxide in the earth, the more we increase global warming.... And here comes the ice age again

I'll have to check the stores again. It used to be that fluorescent bulbs couldn't be used those ways. What about security motion detectors? Will they come on instantly? Are they sturdy enough for outdoor use?

I do notice that the bulbs are a bit dim when they first come on, but brighten up pretty quickly. I don't know about the motion sensors, though. I still have halogens in mine.

I don't think you need that for motion detectors. They won't be on for the whole time anyway. You need a really bright light for that as well.

as soon as they came out my family got them. I have noticed that they are harder to break than the regular lightbulbs. Maybe cause it's a tight tube instead of a lager tube.
