How do you make college homework interesting?

Hmm, I think it just depends on each person. Some of them find college easier than others. And it depends on which major and course you are taking.

Homeworks were so freaking easy at school for the deaf I went to so, there wasn't much effort needed from me I guess.

But it's different at public school or college for sure.

Just manage your time wisely and you will be fine.

Some people would use a "reward" method where they promised to spend proper amount of time doing homework and did well on exams/paper because of that and get reward for it. It can be varied thing as go out to movie, restaurant, or buy candies. Whatever's get you to looking forward and willing to work hard for it.

Also have you thought about making game out of it? Like for instance, science, you have your friends play memorize game together. Have your friend teasing you asking you what O stand for, and you answer oxygen.
I dunno about homeworks that involved research and write a paper because I find that to be the most boring task out of all. I would very much rather study for exam than write a paper. But there's not much I can do since professors LOVE papers. Feh.

Since you are aiming to become a teacher, I reckon you will have to write a lot of papers . It's just that type of field it is.

Also I learned that when you are in college, homework is like class where you do the most of the learning, thus you spend more time on it than you would have if you were in high school. It's a way to balance the system for you. That's why some of posters above you said for each one hour class you have, you might have to spend 4 hours on homework itself.

15-18 hours of class per week in college vs 49 hours per week at high school.
So you spend more time on homework in college than in high school and that is how it's balanced out.

Nice I do that. I like one professor. He was very funny. Can make you laugh during class.

I love to enjoy math and asl and teaching but everything else get boring.:giggle::hmm:

You need to get in the habit of telling yourself that college is the opportunity to learn many things across many diciplines that you would not have the opportunity to learn otherwise. The purpose of general unviersity requirements requiring you to take courses outside your major area of study is to provide you with a strong knowledge base that will improve your ability to understand the courses that are in your major, and how to apply your major knowledge in real life. Especially if you plan to be a teacher, you need to have a wide base of knowledge about many different areas.

True enough.  everyone

My homeworks is a bored! How do you make it interesting?

There is no hope for making homework more exciting. Why not work with study partner. That what kept me going through out colleges. Good old days pulling all nighters to complete reports.

Allow me share one experience. I was studying for a class that I had no motivation to pay attention in classroom. The finals were coming up in few days. Instruction was to have 5x8 index card with notes front and backside. I knew there was a hope to pass the class. I gathered up 4 of my classmate that was bored in class and had a mission. I told each to type up all notes in Microsoft Word. We had to cover 7 chapters worth of notes. In end, we had 16 pages worth of notes in Word document single line. Then lucky I knew, Microsoft Word has feature where you can print out each pages on one sheet of paper. So I had 16 tiny pages on one sheet of page. Then cut all 16 tiny pages and glued it to 5x8 index card. 8 on front, 8 on back. The process of making this note index card took all night. We had a lot fun discussing about what we have read. Reviewed all vocabularies etc...

Can you imagine every single vocabulary with full definitions were on that 5x8 index card? Every quick note of each topic... A to Z of whole 7 chapters notes were on that 5 x 8. Impossible to do if done by hand written. But using Microsoft's printout 16 pages per one paper sheet was a life saver.

5 of us walked in and took out that 5x8. My teacher was calmly shocked that we had the notes in fine print. She looked at it and realized what kind of instruction she have given us. 5 of us passed the final exam with at least C above. Only one of us failed the class overall due to not understanding the subject. Of course I passed the class with B.

The following year... I learned that teacher banned typed note. Only can bring hand written notes on 5x8 index card. Oh sorry to those future generation of students with that teacher. :giggle:

That a tip. Watch what the teacher says and see if you can use this method for your class. Remember, do it once for each teacher. Choose the correct final to use this as ticket to get by. Don't use this in your fun classes. It better to enjoy the final exam in fun classes because they should be easier to remember.

I don't know any one willing study with me. I will find out later.

Just ask your peers in classroom if they want to study. They will want to as long have a goal. Don't have to have entire semester study partner.

I was fortunate to have a study partner from sophomore to senior because we had same major. So we scheduled all classes together and study our butt off. In fact, he kept me going but same time he was taking advantage of my skills.

For most classes, I just ask others or they ask me. Once the 5x8 index trick came out... people start asking me how to get around in various ways in each classes. Pathetic.

As a college student, I try to make the subject applicable. In otherwords, if I'm learning about time travel, I think about how the application of time travel could be useful in aeronautical engineering. If you are learning about college, maybe consider making the info applicable - make notes of encouragement to use as book marks in your books, make a calender and set up those 3-4 hours of study for each hour you are in class. You're classes will become more interesting when you digress into the classes of your major. But as other people said before, do your best, because it paves the way into the sucess of your other classes. In otherwords, what you are learning now, they are probably trying to make your transition to 4/5 classes easier. Good Luck to all continuing their education!

That's the key. What ever you are learning can be applied to your area of interest with a little critical thinking.

You could always research some more about your homework. Some homeworks has a history behind it and the lesson. I know homework is so boring. Sometimes to me I get intrested in it. I love history. Its very intresting to take a look back and see what happened before and how it ended or how it started. And sometimes if i can't find a answer in my text book for my homework, i end up looking on the computer for some clues and answers to the questions. I'm a freshman right now in high school. And if you can't understand any of them, you could always ask a teacher for some help or if you had questions, or your parents..if you wanted to. But I hoped this helped!
