Here is a deaf race car driver that relies on a reading device to help him race.
That's interesting.. not too many daff can hear a door open/close, un/locked remote control beeper, a low fuel warning beeper, honky horn, auto crash, tire screeching, air whooshing, police/firetruck siren, baby backseat cryin, kids fightin, etc.
Don't see what part of driving that actually USE hearing. Don't say hear sirens cos even hearing people can't hear them. Only thing I can think of is listen to radio for traffic news.
Right, like I said at post # 136.....
My only restrictions are to have 2 outside mirrors and my rear view mirror. Rasio is not a restriction in Florida that I know of, didn't know others places had that kind of restriction. Gee, learn something new everyday I guess.
SCREEEEEEEE THIS OLD LADY IS IN MY WAY, SCREW HER --CRASH-- RED LIGHT? --CRASH-- NO MORE RED LIGHT! OH LOOK, THERE IS A FELLOW DRIVING A SMART CAR! --CRASH-- WOO, 173.153 FEET! NEW RECORD! OH LOOK, PRETTY RED BLUE LIGHTS! THESE PEOPLE SURE LIKE PLAYING WITH ME! LETS PLAY "DODGECAR"! SCREEEE SCREEEE SCREEEE --CRASH-- HAHA, THEY LOST! OOOH, DO I SEE A FULL APPLE STORE UP AHEAD? INDEED, I DO! SCREEEEE --CRASH, THUMP, CRASH -- NOW IT'S EMPTY! BWAHAHAHAHA!
I think she meant Radio.Rasio, Kristina? What's that?
I think she meant Radio.
You brought up a good point and some good questions. I find that since I had gotten my CI, I could hear the passenger a little more as a driver. Not necessarily having long conversations with them or anything to that sort. But rather short phrases whereas I'd be able to answer "Yes, that's a nice house...". Smile. This was mentioned in the original post, but no one really answered it and I'm curious. Do d/Deaf people sign while driving? What would you do if you needed to say something to a passenger, or they needed to say something to you? Are there any laws forbidding signing while driving? (since there are laws against texting, and both require use of the hands and looking away).
I've also wondered, what do you think about the laws that forbid the use of earphones while driving, because they block sound? Do you think those laws should not exist since you do not need to hear to drive safely? Do you think the existence of those laws contribute to the general public's idea that d/Deaf people can't drive, or that you must be bad drivers?

And how do you communicate with the passengers that don't know ASL? Wait that is if they are in your car to begin with?Thats all? We have full fledged conversations at 80 mph. Check out 2:39 and 6:39 in this video
