How are you feeling today?....

She said that but the symptoms appear only once. I think she is wrong but I didn't get a 2nd opinion since my bout of shingles in March. Been too busy but I should make an apt with another dr while I am off this summer. I do not want to get the symptoms again. Even though it was in a small area, it was just so painful..I cant imagine if it had become larger. One co worker was out for a week when she got it all over her lower back.
We have a friend who recently had shingles, and his was mostly on his head (he is bald, so it was easy to see), and there was serious concern when it got near his eye. It stopped spreading very close to his eye, and his vision was protected but it was a close call.

Did your doctor suggest getting the shingles prevention shot after you are fully healed? I read that people can get shingles more than once, so I wonder if the shot would help prevent that. I need to see about getting that shot.

Hopefully your insurance will pay for the shot. It's expensive (I think $200+). I'm waiting till I'm old enough, per insurance, to get mine. I think I did read where my carrier is considering lowering the age.

I'm going to try to get it thru VA or TriCare.

CVS MinuteClinics have the shingles vaccine for $79 - $99.

My local CVS does not have a Minute Clinic. The closest CVS that offers shingles vaccines is about 20 minutes away via a two lane highway. The one about 35 minutes away has the advantage of being a divided highway all the way.

Not sure what the cost at either of these would be (Carlyle, Illinois & Mt. Vernon, Illinois). Need to check Walgreen's, Walmart, and a couple of independents.

That doesn't sound bad. Around here, we would call that convenient.

None of my medical appointments or pharmacy are that easy to get to.

This seems like something it would be good to document and forward to the committee doing the current investigations. At least send to your own congressmen/women and senator.
This is weird. A few minutes ago, the nurse from the neurology clinic called me asked about my symptoms and appointment. She said she's going to try to get me on a shorter list.

Do you think VA is reading AD? :hmm:

I would rather go slightly further if it is a divided highway (divided with at least two lanes in each direction) rather than two lane highway with no space between the two lanes going opposite directions.

You would not survive in Lowcountry traffic.

I've wondered about that, too. I sometimes wonder if there were certain companies or whatnot reading these posts to see if they've been mentioned or not.

I like what I have better but could learn.

Not sure if you would like small town living otherwise but how does it sound to have only two of the roads through town that are one way and three lanes wide? Everything else is narrower. It takes 15-20 minutes to get across town unless you happen to get caught by a freight train. That can happen at all but two crossings (one is an underpass and the other an overpass - the two wider roads/highway).

I was just giving an example. That there may be some alternatives. I am spoiled in having everything around me but that's because I live in a large metropolitan area with very populated suburbs.

Paranoid. I've been reading a persons story about an injury that led to bone death and he will have voluntary foot and lower leg amputation to get rid of the pain and allow him to walk again with a prosthetic leg.

So now I'm worried that my continued knee pain is a sign of bone death and that I might have to have my legs amputated.

I might read too many stories lol  :Ohno:

I've lived in suburbs, small towns and cities. I've never lived in a large city. When we lived in Wisconsin it was on a logging trail off a two-lane road, in a log house. The town was Egg Harbor, near Sturgeon Bay, and the year-round population was a few hundred. More cows than people.

The first house we lived in when we moved to SC was in Goose Creek. At that time, we had only one intersection that had a traffic light.

Yes, we have lots of railroad crossings here, and I know what it's like to get caught waiting for a long freight train (Amtrack trains are quick).

I hate traffic and congestion, and I've been in my share of wrecks.

You might not have the same condition.

My son-in-law is a below-the-knee amputee (industrial accident). He's very active with an amputee support group. He's met quite a few amputees who had voluntary amputations, usually after years of struggling with surgeries and pain. They all say, "I wish I had done this (amputation) years ago." It seems weird but it's true.

That's not to say that's the solution for you. Most people do NOT need amputation.

Yes, sometimes we get too much information from the Net. :giggle:
